Hey guys i need your opinions!
Hey guys i need your opinions!
So im very close to paying off my 2005 gt. Not sure if i want to purchase a 2011 for the 5.0 for the fact of starting another car payment. Cant purchase a gt500 cause its out of my price range.
SOOO, i was contemplating doing a motor swap. First off i was thinking about putting the 5.4L from the 2007-2009 gt500 in and getting the supporting items for it to work. Second, thinking about swapping for the new 5.0L thats coming in the 2011 GT when available. Its going to be awesome not having a car payment and i can focus on other goals like a house and so on. I thinking i was save my next purchase for the 50th anniv.
Not sure if this thread is in the right section but what do you guys think would be a good route to go?

I would either add a supercharger to yours or go for a used GT500. The '11 5.0s will surely have a nice premium (and more than likely ADMs) and with the current GT500 market, you can get a nice used one ('07 to '09) in the mid to upper 30s.
Most agree our stock blocks are good for the mid 400 RWHP range with a good dyno tune.
I have even toyed with the idea of selling mine and getting a used GT500... but with mine being paid off, along with my mods, I really don't want a payment right now for the difference.

The math says sell your car and get a used GT500, 07-09. These cars keep getting cheaper, do a search under `completed listings` on ebay and you can see what they are actually selling for.
I was going to dump a ton of cash in to my Bullitt, but instead spent about a grand for a few vital mods (tune, engine mounts, pullies, wheelhop reduction kit) so I can race the wheels off of it while I pay it off, pay off all of my other debt, and save up a chunk of cash. In a year or two I can grab an iron block GT500 with a very small loan, upgrade the suspension to 2010 spec, and if I feel like it do the blower upgrade for more power, all for much less than the cost of bulletproofing my Bullitt and adding a `charger to same. I enjoy the heck out of every day with my car without pining for mods!

Duping money into a car will always be just that. You're never going to get it out. In the end, a gt500 will always hold its value more than a regular GT. Look at the 03-04 cobras for comparison. If you are looking for more power I'm sure you will eventually get used to that of the gt500 and then want more so its a never ending cycle. I think it just male DNA. I know that I'm ready for more after having my car for over a year.
What about a built short block from ford racing? They are selling 4.6L forged short blocks for about 4.5k add roush eaton supercharger and injectors and pump $6500. Maybe you will spend about 12-15k in mods and put down over 600hp to start with. Witch is about the price difference your going to pay by selling your gt and buying a used gt500. Although depending on the condition of your gt and the condition of the gt500, it could be a bad buy.
The alu 4.6L block can take a good beating, the weak link is rods and pistons. You could always have your short block rebuilt for about 3500-4k and put down allot of power. 500lb of difference between the gt500 and the gt is worth something, although im not saying that the gt wont get heavier with all the go fast parts.

It's Unamerican To Not Have A Car Payment
Hey John,
I wouldn't dump alot of money in the additions you are thinking about, you'll never get it back and the market will not be the same when you try to sell or trade as it is for a stock Mustang.
If money is an issue, there are plenty of options, I wanted a GT500, but not the six speed, so I purchased a Shelby GT/BJ with automatic.
I own ford stock, so buy a new one and help improve the economy

You might be surprised how active the market is on used blowers. You can often get a large chunk of your money back on equipment; assuming you decide to get blown and then later decide to return the car to stock and trade/sell it. The only thing you won't recoup is the labor obviously but if you do it yourself, who cares. Ultimately if money was no object I'd buy a GT500, but the car payment, insurance, etc. would not be cool plus I probably wouldn't want to drive it as often as a GT just because of my area's climate. So keeping the GT with no car payment and buying a blower would be cool....... Just my 2 cents.
