Help with SCT and code reading

I have had the SCT from Bamachips for around a year now and just recently my battery died on my car. The battery died while the car was sitting for around 5 days. I charged the battery but now when I crank the car my battery light comes on and a message comes on the dash saying "Check Charging System". I tried plugging in my SCT and reading the codes but I have never been able to get my SCT to read anything. It always tells me it cannot read. Honestly I dont even know how to use the SCT to read the codes. Any helpful advice? Thanks everyone!

Justin

Make sure the plug is plugged in all the way. I had that problem once and it turned out I didn't have the plug all the way in the socket. Also, if you want a detailed instruction manual, go here: http://www.sctflash.com/forum/attach...0&d=1132504812

A simple way of checking to see if the alternator is functioning is to probe the battery terminals with a voltmeter while the engine is running. If it reads over 13 volts, i.e. 13.8v - 14.2v, the alternator is good. If it's near 12 volts, i.e. 11.5v - 12.2v, the alternator is not charging.

Thanks for the advice. I did the test you mentioned and the voltage is showing 11.3 so I now know it is the alternator. My original warrant ran out a week ago darn! But I do have the extended warranty. Does anyone know if the voltage regulator is built into the alternator of the mustangs?

It shouldn't matter, the charging/electical system of the car is all powertrain related, so it should be covered on the extended warranty. Bring it to Ford and they will diagnose and fix the problem.

Well took my car into the dealer tuesday. And within 2 hours the car was found to have a bad alternator and the alternator was replaced and back to me. Talk about quick turn around! Extended warranty covered it... Then today the car still had trouble cranking so took the batter to Autozone and it was found to have a dead cell in it. I replaced it with a duralast battery so hopefully no more troubles any time soon!
