Help - Check Engine Light

I believe due to me not installing the filter properly it popped off the GMS elbow and lit up the CEL. It's not the wrench though. It's the one that is an outline. I can't tell if it's supposed to be an engine or transmission??? lol

I have since secured the filter and restarted the car but the light is still illuminated. I disconnected the negative battery cable and waited a minute then re-connected but no luck. I now have the neg. cable disconnected and thought I'd wait a few before trying again.

any thoughts?

thanks

The computer is an OBD II type and does not fall for the same tricks as the OBD I gen (disconnect battery to reset).

What the system does provide, is a reset after about 25 engine starts. This happens to newer vehicles when the gas cap is left untightened.

My pickup took exactly 25 engine starts to turn the light off. I actually did ALL of them in the driveway and watched the light go out.

I say if you know what caused the issue, drive and wait. If you really have concerns, Ford can reset it in about five minutes and if your dealer is any good, won't charge you this time.

If you look in the book you get with the car it will tell you that if you drive the car for (I think) 3 driving cycles and the problem does not recur the light will turn off.
I am not 100% about this but look it up I think it's there.

25 is the lucky number huh? cool.

Since I installed the cai i haven't had any problems with cel's and tonight on the way home is when the filter popped off. I've since fixed that so I think I'll go try and start it up about ~20 more times...

you mean the manual? I didn't get one. I've asked the dealer at least twice with no luck.

i saw some really cheap odb2 scanners at Pep Boys this last weekend.

Some were 40.00 for a basic model... you can buy one cheap, and reset it yourself and even see what the code is before you do.

i know you might do the easy 25 starts, but a scanner comes in handy if you have no plans on getting a x2 or predator...

Look here for online manual. Page 220 in the 2005 book

Looks like you fixed it but you can download one for free here.
