I tried a search and came up with no definitive answers. I'm looking to find out what headers will bolt up to a Prochamber? Also, has anyone had a prochamber or headers with the Ford Racing mufflers/stock KR muffler?

 

Have you considered going with the Mac longtubes?

 

I had just assumed that the MAC longtubes will bolt up to the Prochamber, hopefully that's correct. I was wondering if the placement of the Prochamber would allow for other headers to bolt up to it as well. I'm looking to buy some LT's used...

I've got a link to another forum at home with pics of the add-on prochamber and how it splices in to the factory downpipes/cats/H pipe section. From what I know, if you go Mac long tubes and want bolt-on function, you need their off road prochamber w/ the legs (downtubes) attached to fit correctly. Their long tubes are a bit shorter than the rest out there.



All depends on if you want to keep the cats, though. If you do, it's either custom build or look for a different crossover, I believe, if you're going long tubes and prochamber. Could be wrong though.

 

I've got the Off-Road Prochamber (2nd pic).

 

My understanding is that one is used to hook up to the stock or shorty headers, and just deletes the cats on the downpipes. So to go long-tube you'd need a muffler shop to cut those legs and weld on a new plate, or conversely weld directly to the headers themselves.
If you look at the under-car shot, the MAC long tubes are shorter and only go to about where the blue O2 sensor is, I believe, whereas many other long tubes go all or nearly all the way to the crossover, and then connect to their (mostly proprietary) x, h, or whatever crossover pipe:

Their prochamber one has shorter length on the leg side. Maybe possible to get them to send you the shorty legs so you can cut and weld those, then directly bolt to their headers??

FWIW, the 5.0M&SF review a few years back found the MAC long tubes to have the best combo of price, ease of fitment, quality, and performance (actually one of the top performers):

I e-mailed MAC asking them too. Thanks for the responses guys. Does anyone have any underside pics of each header? I'd like to check out where they stop, in relation to the prochamber pic posted.

MAC replied to my e-mail:
The MAC Pro Chamber will only bolt up to MAC Long Tube Headers.
We sell the Off Road Legs that will allow you to bolt up the MAC Long
Tube headers to the PC (Pro Chamber) that you have now with out having
to buy a whole new Mid-Pipe. The Legs are part number 45005 and are
$99.50+S&H. But like I said the MAC PC will not bolt up to a different
companies headers. If you have any other questions feel free to let me
know.

Unless I go track-only (maybe in a few years), I have to keep the cats on for the emissions here in Colorado.

 

with my set up i had a set of pypes headers and their off road x pipe. well i wanted to go with a prochamber and just got the splice in one. it bolted right in.

 

So Pypes headers will bolt up to a O/R Prochamber without the legs huh?

The pypes headers seem to bolt to a flange, which the splice-in prochamber doesn't have:

 

I can't see that working. The O/R prochamber has its flange at the stock location, for the stock exhaust manifold and the shorty headers. The MAC headers aren't as long as say the Pypes or others, so the prochamber that mates to it has those dinky legs you mentioned, which are sized just for the MAC header's length. I'd imagine you could get those shorties, possibly cut to length for whatever header you get? Might work.

I'd go the MAC route myself (and might in the future if I don't need emissions testing).

 

I'm running Mac longtubes with the prochamber.. Couldn't be happier with the sound and performance of this setup.. My vid is in my sig, first part is open headers, after the first part we hooked up the prochamber and pypes mid muffler...

 

I thought California had tested emissions, so how do you get away without cats?

 

I have the full Mac setup in SoCal also. Its a risk to run but I dont drive it everyday, and when I do, Im pretty cautious. You should be able to bolt any headers up to the prochamber. I had the stock manifolds and O/R legs that I made from pipes bought at Pep Boys. So any good exhaust shop should be able to make some legs to connect them.

 

I understand what you're saying, pretty much anything should be adaptable to those headers with a bit of custom work. Not straight bolt-on or slip fit, though, unless MAC are used.

In Colorado we have to emissions test with a tailpipe sniffer every 2 years, so no possibility of going catless here.
