Hawk HP+ pad question... clip/hooks on them

I have a set for front and rear and am installing them today.

One of hte front pads has only one of those hanging clips, if that makes sense...

are they needed/required?

reason i'm asking is because they are not looking too permanent just attached to a rivet and the fact that one popped off.

I have the clip in the box that came off the rivet (was wrapped aorund it)... and dont know if it's needed.

I didnt even know pads came with those on there.

I'm hopeing they aren't needed.

I'm guessing they are wear indicators?

The stock pads had em too, I had to remove them to make sure my wheels cleared. Not required

Let me know how you like these. I am looking at new pads along with the Baer 14" rotor upgrade.

I recommend the HPS for the street. Less aggressive material and alot less dust.

I just got back from the little test drive / mating ritual and all I can say is WOW.I've never had anything other than stock brake pads on every car i've owned. These pads are nice.

Ren... the reason I went with these was because a friend of mine who does track/road coarses has them on his STI and he says they are very good pads.I didn't get the hps because they were more, to me anyway.. slated to street use, being a step above stock pads. Althougth I dont see anything wrong with them either.I basically wanted to have a track pad that was ok for street as well.

I'll give them a full review after i've driven with them on for a little while. I can already tell a difference between these and stock pads.My stockers (had the car 4 months) are glazed over and didn't stop the car very well.

My gf drove my car last weekend and commented "wow, you need to change them this weekend" because she felt it took more to stop the car.

I'm going to take some sand paper to them and save them for spares in case i ever need an emergency set and/or out of money to get more hp+ pads. (read that as have to get to work and have no money for pads..hahahah)jake

I use the hp+ pads on my car on the front and rear. They are more agressive and they will leave your wheels dirty and they will also squeek.
Very good pad overall. Just FYI, they are more agressive than stock and you will get rotor wear especially if you track your car. I got 5 events out of the set of fronts pads and am in need of new front rotors now also.(I am a very experienced and aggressive road coarse driver-I brake deep and hard) Your wear may very. The rears pads still look like new and the rear rotors are fine.

I've used both pads on the street and I think the hps actually perform better and dust much less than the hp+.

I noticed the noise this evening but overall i like the tradoff.

As for rotor wear... not too worried about it, it's all part of the cycle of automotive performance....

Agreed. I keep an extra set rotors and pads in my "track stock" box.

BTW-as far as the spring clips being needed, I think they are there to keep the pads from moving around causing vibration and clicking in the calipers.

Your last sentence is interesting. It would seem to support the notion that increasing rear rotor size is probably more cosmetic than it is necessary for improved braking performance since the fronts do so much more of the work.

You are probably right. My 03 Mach seemed to use alot more rear brake than the 06.
