Happy Birthday to ME! 2nd place finish

6-10 at Mid-America Motorplex, Glenwood Iowa. Lost on first round and bought back. Finished 2nd overall out of 11 (all who lost 1st round bought back in). Last round I not only red light but also break out by .03.

$100 prize for 2nd, not a bad Birthday for turning 40

Don,

I never can get there early to make more than 2 or 3 runs time trial. This time I got two. 1st was 2.103 60', 9.037 @ 79.06 1/8. This was basically a hot lap after I teched.

2nd TT, 2.069 60', 8.979 @ 78.80 1/8. It was very humid, and probably in the high70's low 80's temp. Humidity was 70% and higher for the whole night.

Based on the fact I'm an idiot, and that I was going to have more cool off time for my car before the race, and it was getting quicker based on the TT, I set a dial in of 8.90.

1st race;

him me
dial 8.62 8.90
r/t .120 .101
60' 1.849 2.084
330 5.523 5.865
1/8 8.632 @ 76.61 8.978 @ 79.28
left first .0474

I lose, $20 buy back, I do it now knowing I'm an idiot when it comes to predicting dial in's.

buy back round
him me
dial 9.70 8.96 (a little more realistic for the day)
r/t .298 (zzzzz) .127
60' 2.278 2.089
330 6.382 5.865
1/8 9.772 @ 72.48 9.11 @ 70.47
Left first .0893 (had caught him and passed at half track, and was seriously thinking I was going to break out, so I lifted (too much) then got back on it to win, barely). Seeing the 330 matching up, I knew I was on with my dial in though. I'm in the next round.

2nd round (my 3rd race, humidity going up)
him me
dial 8.92 8.96
r/t -.027 .079
60' 1.997 2.114 (horrible 60' for me, reflected the rest of the way)
330 5.772 5.924
1/8 8.953 @ 76.40 9.048 @ 79.10 (I'm glad he red lighted!)
Left first .1616 (car ran a lot slower than I expected, seemed like other cars were either breaking out, or going much slower, was a weird night. I moved my dial up to 8.99 couning on my R/T to make up any difference for the next round)

3rd round
him me (I never raced the left lane, always the right)
dial 8.57 8.99
r/t .068 .106 (r/t didn't help me there)
60' 1.924 2.096
330 5.561 5.880
1/8 8.647 @ 79.66 8.991 @ 79.38 (can't get any closer than that)
right 1st .0386 (so my 330 was the best of the night, but 1/8 still off. forgot to mention we were going into a stiff head wind all night, 20mph +. Based on this, I moved my dial in back to 8.98. Didn't really matter, 3 racers left, I'd been missing the by's all night, and the other two had already recieved a by, so by default I got into the finals with a by! . from $50 to 100 right there. I was stoked no doubt.

by run
Dial 8.98
r/t .147
60' 2.099
330 5.869
1/8 8.970 @ 79.61 So, had I raced I would have lost and broke out. 330 was slower, but 1/8 was faster. really tough to figure out the car this night. based on this I dropped dial in to 8.96. I end up racing the guy from the first race that beat me.

Final
him me
dial 8.62 8.96
r/t .086 -.049 (that's right, lose before i start)
60' 1.865 2.071 (ut oh...)
330 5.541 5.837 (more ut oh....)
1/8 8.624 @ 79.11 8.930 @ 79.60 Yep, broke out by .03. So, wouldn't have matter if I hadn't of redlight because I broke out. It was really tough deciding on a dial in and I got lucky to do as well as I did.

The cool thing is I don't stress about how "fast" my car is when I race on points night because it's all about making the dial in. Friday run what you brung is the "man I need to make my car faster" night

Thanks for the run down!!

One thing I noticed after I installed my eH2O pump, and remote fan switch was that I could cool the motor down in about 5-7 minutes. That seemed to really make it run very consistent. In the last 1/8-mi bracket race I ran, the car was deadly consistent:

Time trial right before brackets started: 7.890 (so I dialed a 7.89 for the brackets)

Round 1: 7.895

Round 2: 7.899

Semis: Redlight (spun tires during powerbrake when staging due to fog/dew on the track).

Dayum, I can't wait to get back to the track.

Don, did you ever write up the install on the remote fan switch here? Haven't looked for it, but don't recall seeing it.

If the water temp was over 180, wouldn't the fan come on when you turned the key over, and with an E water pump that would come on too right?

I had no problem tearing into and changing my 73 Montego, but I'm hesitant with the Mustang since it's my main mode of transport.

I have to say, the more I read/think about it, Steeda U/D pulleys and the E water pump sound like a good thing to do next.

I probably posted it here, but who knows if it survived the crash. I did that mod back in January. I'll see if I can find a writeup on another site.

The eH2O pump runs whenever the key is on. It is not temp dependent. I use the switch to run the fan with the engine off. I only do that at the track to get the water temp down as low as I can. The rest of the time, the fan operates normally.

OK, here is what happened. There was a big Meziere thread here at TMS, that Blazing Saddles had put a ton of info in. I used his info for my install. But, apparently the thread got "deleted" by the mods here when George left TMS. So, all that good tech info is not available anymore.

But, there are some useful tidbits in this thread: http://www.modularfords.com/forums/2...ead-33474.html

Don, thanks. What I'll probably end up doing, is buying the U/D pulleys, the waterpump, temp gauge, and whatever else I need, then pay someone to do it. We've got a shop here that's done a few supercharger installs, figure if they can do that, this should be easy for them.
