GT500 Throttle Body Upgrade

Hey guys, before i get anxious and install my Gt500 throttle body and adapter, does this unit require a retune? i had problems in the past with aftermarket throttle bodies and would not like to repeat that. thanks for your time.

Likely would require a tune, depending on your other mods. Without knowing your mods, I guess there's only one way to find out..... try it.

my mods are frpp shorty headers(soon to be hooker Lt's or stainless works Lt's, hooker o/r x, flowmaster super 44's, 4:10's,udp's, mmr intake. few suspension mods and thats pretty much it.
so whatcha think? wasnt this piece advertised as a direct bolt on with no other modifications needed?

I'd wait to install the t-body until you install the headers, and get a retune all at once- you'll need it I'm sure for the longtubes.

You do not need a new tune with the GT500 throttle body. A tuner probably could get the most out of the extra air flow. But your car will idle and drive just like stock with that throttle body. I installed one on my blown 06 GT and did not need to change anything.

if you didn't have the same circumstances as the OP, NA specifically, why would the recommendation be , you'll be fine. I would think that being blown and likely running a tune already of some sort would negate the fact that for you it was OK ?

I'm not bashing I just want to understand. I'm going FI and I can't imagine that things that will be OK for me would OK for a NA car.

Installed one on my car last year. I set it 2% rich just to be on the safe side. Took it to the dyno. First dyno so no comparison available. Air fuel was pretty solid. Changed it up to 4% in each direction and it had very little effect on Air fuel as well as horse power which varied approx 3hp. 2% rich seemed to be the happy place.

The electronics on the GT500 are basically the same as the stock throttle body. So, drivability does not change, except for the fact that there is better throttle response. In all reality, the stock throttle body flows plenty enough for a N/A setup. So, don't expect big gains. Maybe 3-5rwhp tops. However, changing out for a bigger throttle body is one less thing for future mods when you are trying to maximize all the bolt on's you can. If at all, I would think a tune would be needed with the bigger throttle body and a blown application to get the maximum power upgrade from the throttle body change. However, on my setup with a Vortech there was no real change that I needed a new tune. The biggest thing I noticed was the throttle response. I did not do a before and after dyno with the only change being the throttle body.
