GT Mods
Long time lurker, first time poster. Alright, I'm looking into getting a '06 or '07 GT, as my finances allow.
As I've been looking into the new Mustang, I see this fountain of great modificaitons (performace and appearance) that folks have done and was wondering what sort of effort did it take to get the perfomance mods to work well with the new GT. My brother keeps telling me that you've got to re-tune the computer with every performance mod as the engine pieces all talk to each other and such... is this true or is my brother just blowing smoke?
thanks folks

Well You have to retune if you want to remove things like the torque management system.. Change your rev limiter things of that nature.. Some CAI intake systems like the K&N FIPK require no tune but yield lower hp numbers, others like C&L need a tune to function correctly and as a result of the tune yield higher hp numbers. I chose to go with the K&N FIPK since I wont have to tune and I still get a reasonable gain out of it. I know that later if I want to go the tune route (December) there will be tunes available for my particular intake.
Other mods like the Throttle Body spacer from JET doesnt require a tune but yields some nice gains like throttle response and low end rpm gain. This is probably my next mod to get.
Axleback exhaust systems wont need a tune either. There is very little gain from them but the sound is the main reason for getting them anyways.

Guess it comes down to how much performance gains you want right now and your budget. I put axlebacks on but that was for sound, not a hp gain to speak of. Think you would have to go with a catback, x-pipe, etc to get any real gain. Went with the K&N Air Charger since it did not require a tune but could be done later. The 15 hp gain K&N states at the rear wheel sounds high but I do notice better responsiveness and a louder sound. Whatever you do - have FUN!
Ranger and gkaufman hit it right on the head. You would probably want to start with cat or axle back exhaust and then go to a intake. I'm not sure if you are getting an automatic or manual trans but if you are getting a manual you may want to think about getting a steeda or hurst shifter. The factory one has some slop and these help considerably. My first mod was a Steeda tri-ax and I love it. Just do some research and ask us on here if you have any questions about specific mods and where to get them.

I have the Magnaflow axle-backs too. How do you like yours?
