OK, please give me some leeway here, as this is the first time I have had any dyno testing done.

The first chart has three pulls...There were absolutely NO mods done to the car for the first chart. The first two pulls were done consecutively with the car at normal operation temperature . The third pull had a 30min cool down period and showed the most hp/tq. The weather was rainy and 70 degrees at sea level. The hood was up and a large fan running in front of the car. There were approximately 700 miles on the car and I was running the recommened 87 octane. Here is the chart:

Now the second chart shows two pulls, although three pulls were done. The second pull was so close to the third pull it was hard to tell them apart. The first pull was before the SCT flash, notice the 6250RPM cutout. The second pull was done immediately after the SCT flash, again the second pulls graph is omitted. The third pull was done 30mins later and we removed the carbon trap. The car was at normal operating temp for the pulls. The weather was dry and 40 degrees at sea level. The hood was up and a large fan running in front of the car. There were approximately 1840 miles on the car and I was running the 91octane my tuners said I should have when I brought it in for the flash. Here is the chart:

My tuners said, "The tune leans out air/fuel to 12.9 from 11.5, increases timing and helps with torque management. The tune is an SCT tune, we're sure Chris Johnson had input and Brent made some minor tweaks."

I personally don't see a lot of improvement on the graphs.

****NOTE: I am comparing the third pull on the two charts, not the base pull and third pull on the same chart****

I do see it is developing max RWTQ a little bit sooner and carrying max RWHP further in the curve. They only show a 5RWHP/10RWTQ difference from the first chart. I only drove home from the tuner, but it was bumper to bumper traffic, all two miles; so I didn't get to see if I could feel a difference behind the wheel. I hope I will be able to tell a difference behind the wheel, as now I am running high octane and my wallet is a little lighter from buying the tuner.

****As a side note and a plug for the tuners....Brent and Frank were great! They answered my questions and seem to be very knowledgeable. They are located in Chesapeake, VA WEBSITE end plug****

I didn't notice if you were driving a manual or an automatic, but assuming a stick, your car is making about 323 hp at the flywheel, which is quite stout. I wouldn't be upset with that for sure.

The title of the thread says "manual".

Also, I can't see the charts. All I get is a red "X"

Ok, I changed servers the charts were on...so hopefully there will be no problems!

It is a manual tranny.

I am not upset with the initial numbers. I am more upset of the gains, I didn't seem to get what other dynos seem to show. I have seen posts that show a 12RWHP/18RWTQ from the SCT tune plus 5-7RWHP from removing the trap. I was hoping for top numbers for the price the SCT tuner cost and having to run 91 octane.

Will be nice to see what other manual owners get. So basically the only "mod" you did was the HC trap removal and the SCTune. I am thinking about getting an SCTune done because I have different exhaust and intake kit.

Although the gains are not great with the SCT tune, I like what I've heard about how it improves the electronic throttle input. That alone might be enough to sell me on it if it is indeed an issue.

Oh, and as a current WRX driver (soon to order a GT), the torque curves I keep seeing on the dynoplots give me a big, fat chub! 250 rwtq from 1500 rpms on up!

How much does it cost to have a dyno done?

That's pretty standard for the 4.6s with any number of valves

Depending on exhaust, they'll make between 230-250

I am getting my SCT this week with a cable and software to flash it myself. I have a GT manual, MMR, and underdrive pulleys. I will post my results as soon as I can. The holidays are slowing down my free time, but will try my best to get it done soon...

Once I had the SCT Flash loaded in mine, I noticed that my exhaust was a bit louder (better sounding). What would cause this? I know I'm not imagining things because my wife even asked me if I had something done on the exhaust. She actually accused me of spending money on an exhaust without telling her about it-go figure. Steeda's dyno won't be available until January, but I know I've gained more than 5 HP with my Flash and Underdrive pullies!

edit: Mine is stick

Jerry, have you posed your delima to SCT direct, or maybe on their forum? If you noticed the dyno numbers I posted, I started with a baseline hp max at 7.8 less than you started with. Also, I ended with about 325 to the crank so we are about equal at the days end. I've heard the SCT tune is suppose to be good for around 15rwhp, so your questions should be legit in terms of SCT giving you some explanation, IMO

For all of you who have done the "flash". Aren't you worried about your warranty? What if something happens, isn't there a big risk of getting slapped with a big service bill from the dealer?

The original tune is stored in the xcalibrator so it can be reinstalled if necessary to bring you back to stock. Obviously there are risks involved, i.e., it's necessay to have your vehicle towed direct to the dealer. I wouldn't advocate the flash, it's a personal decision.

Paul,

No, I have not asked the question in the SCT forum, I was thinking about doing just that. Since you mentioned it, I will post the question there today.

Can the mechanic tell if it has been flashed and reflashed back to stock?

If i'm reading your post right you show a little over a 15hp increase above the stock tune with the pulls done on the same day. You can’t really use dyno results from a different day under different atmospheric conditions for a real comparison because atmospheric conditions affect your hp output.

Good question. I'll find this out for sure and give you the answer they give me. I was assured in the beginning though that once the car was flashed back to stock, I would have no warranty problems, (relating to the flash issue).
