Yes, I know this is a rookie question, but how do you do a burnout without moving forward?

for the auto you push the brake and gas at the same time, but do not forget to turn off the traction lock, the standard i do not know

For a manual you put it in gear, clutch in- rev up a little bit dump the clutch and quickly move the clutch foot (Left foot) over to the brake to hold the car from going forward, while simultaneously getting on the gas to keep the car from stalling. Don't completely floor the car because it will bounce off the limiter and you will look stupid...

I have a manual..what's line lock?

Once I let the cluitch out and step on the brake doesn't that lock up the rear tires too? I'll be burning up my back brakes won't I?

The braking is done mostly up front, so your fronts will be locked and the backs will continue to spin (RWD).

Yes, thats the point of the line lock. You press down the brakes then engage the Lock which will only affect the front brakes, letting the rears spin freely until you want to drive off then you disengage the Line Lock and you are off to the races.

or use right foot on brake and gas simultaneously... that's how I go about it, anyway. see avatar for results.
