Granatelli Exhaust Evaluation

Hey guys, just thought I would post a sound/video of the Granatelli 2 1/2" exhaust. The sound is a nice deep rumble and what I really like is the fact that it doesn't drone as my previous Borla's did. I can finally listen to the radio again. Anyway, the mufflers and tips are polished and look real nice. The only negative that I can say about them, and this is just personal preference, is that the tips are just plain and a little too small. Nobody will really notice that you have changed them out and if you put them side by side to the Borla's you might be dissapointed. But you also have to remember, I paid 685.00 for the Borla's (cat back) and only 350.00 for the Granatelli's. I lost the drone, still maintain HP increases and I could always buy some tips for what, 90.00 from ford, and I could be happy as a lark and still have only 450.00 invested. I only took one sound byte of the motor with absolutely no warm up on the engine so that you can hear it from the get go. I want to post a drive by and general high rev (have to wait for the engine to warm up) and get that out to everybody. Then it's just a personal preference but one that I do not regret changing to. Anyway, I am curious to everybody's opinion on the system. Remember GMS is having a sale on these JUST TILL THE END OF THE MONTH, so that's why I am posting this on it's own.

Tips? What tips? There were tips visible in the video? Seriously though, that set-up has a pretty nice sound. Thanks for the clip as I was curious but.... I know the Borlas have the drone but I like 'em enough I prefer them over listening to the radio unless I'm on freeway cruise. Tips, no contest.

I know what your saying. For people to compare, below is a shot of one GMS and the other Borla on the same car as well as a picture of the GMS out of the box (nicely polished). I took the first as I was doing the replacement. Side by side it's tough not to prefer the Borla's. A cover tip is almost a must and if enough people prefer some sort of larger tip, maybe GMS will put one out as an add on and then as original equipment. (but again, that will add to the cost). This does give you an option to buy a tip later, especially if your on a budget and when they are both the same size, it doesn't look bad at all. Rember, POLISHED cat back at 350.00 (at least till the end of the month) is a great deal.

Is that the complete cat back for only $350.00? They sound different than what I expected, like deep and smooth. How closely does that video replicate the actual sound?

If thats the whole cat back for $350, can't complain too much about the stock looking tips, sounds like a great deal.

Well, I will say this, Bill. The sound is quite nice at a great price for catbacks. The tips were probably that much more of a shock just because you were running the Borlas to begin with. Kinda like a midget filling in for Lexington Steele at a **** shoot.

Ford made the exhaust cutouts in the fascia too big. I had GT mufflers (3" tips) on my V6 and they looked great. But the same 3" tips look too small on my GT because the fascia cutouts are so big. They seem to be made for 4" tips!

I think it actually sounds better than the video, especially depending on the speakers you have. It suprised me as well and your correct, a deep and rumbly sound. I just saw on another post that he has a 3" exhaust from the MANIFOLD back for 600.00. That's what I call jumping in the game with guns blazing.

How different do the mid pipes look when compared to stock? I've heard some say stock are madrel bent and others say they're not.

I just ordered the exhaust/intake combo. I can't wait to hear the rumble. The wife is real impressed!

Does anybody know what the outside diameter of the exhaust tip is so I can check to see if the Ford tips I have will fit?

With this system do you eliminate the Catalytic Converter or not?

The 2 1/2" system goes from the H-pipe back, keeping the cats in tact. The 3" system goes from the exhaust manifolds back, removing the cats.

Hey Bill, have you heard any drone at all?
Any chance you'll get a drive by video up soon?

Nope, no drone (or at least nothing that has bothered me)...It has a nice rumble and it's a nice piece.... I have the video of the drive by, just haven't converted and posted yet. Hopefully in the next day or so.

It sounded pretty good. I would have liked to have heard it idle some... A lot of catbacks sound great when reving but when idling they sound like they are under water... Blop, blop blop... a nasty sound to me.

4" Tips: I can see no reason whatsoever for them. They came from rice-burners, and don't belong on muscle cars. They are a style mod.

But if you've got to have them, I think they also come with glow in the dark lighting now...
