Has anyone in SoCal had gears installed? If so, how much did it run you?

JBA Racing in San Diego did mine... $620 total. They did a great job, no whine... perfect for 3 months now. I got two other quotes, and they were all about the same.

Not to derail the topic, but I noticed that you have an SCT tuner. I know that JBA is a dealer for them and I was wondering if you had used them to give you a custom tune.

I just got a quote for $240 from a reputable Ford dealer mechanic who builds rear ends, I supply the parts. What exactly are the part numbers I need and where do I get em? I need the gears and the install kit.

Thanks for the info Don. I was kinda leaning towards them anyway.

If you want my honest opinion, I would not go back to them for any more work. I also had JBA do two dyno pulls for me (not tuning pulls, just baseline pulls) and they messed them both up. They did them in 3rd gear on my auto trans (not 1:1 in 4th), and didn't even tell me. I figured it out from the dyno sheets.
So... bottom line, they did a great job on my gears... no complaints... but I'll be looking elswhere for other work; if and when I need it.

I called just about every reputable shop in a 2 hour radius....prices ranged ranged from $575 to $650.... so here in Michigan $600 is about right...

I never have had gears installed, and don't have the slightest idea how to do it myself. $700 seemed kinda high. Is this the going rate? Or anyone know of a better price in Jersey?

The install time is an easy three hours so you figure the cost on this. $300=$100 per hour etc.

Now the local Ford dealer said they had now idea how long it would take, so they said "we better quote you 8 hours..." Needless to day I didn't walk out.. I ran! LOL!

ok.. perhaps I goofed... let me clear things up.. The $600 was for gears, install kit, labor and my favorite... misc. shop supplies... LOL! I understand a lot of guys will say you don't need the install kit.. but for $80 why not... to me it was worth it...

John they have a flat rate book that tells them how long everything takes to repair. FMC does not give them an open checkbook to replace defective parts. They just did not want to do the work. Eighty bucks in my pocket is much better than eighty in theirs so I would not blow that off. Maybe your situation is much better than mine. Eighty bucks today would purchase eighty Power Ball lottery tickets that could be worth 400 million tonight. I think I will go out and buy some more.

"I have no idea... i won't know how long it will take until i get in there... you better quote him 8 hours..." That does not instill a lot of confidence! LOL!
I understand about the $80.. to me it was just a little extra piece of mind...
