Goin FI, Whipple style

Hey, I've been following all of the forced induction threads for some time and made the decision to go FI with the 500hp intercooled Whipple Gen II kit. Not that it's better than any of the others, it's just the kit I preferred to go with.

It's not easy spending this much money in one shot, but what the heck. I am having it installed/tuned by Adam @ ST Motorsports and should be done by the 18th of this month. In preparation I'm installing 18x9 & 10 ARE Torq Thrust M wheels w/Nitto 555s 255/45 & 285/40. Installed CHE lower control arms and a single piece Shaftmasters driveshaft. As well as removed my Steeda UDPs.

Needless to say I am very happy right now and cannot wait until "the day" With some luck I'll be able to get some DRs on a set of take-offs so I can take it to Irwindale to test things out.

Better plan on putting a clutch in, I would also install an oil air seperator while doing the whipple.
if you plan on drag racing you might want to install a 26 spline input shaft as well.

Congrats on the purchase.

Congrats Brian!

I can't recommend M&H tires enough..... as you and I have talked before, they're pretty awesome and will work nicely. You will need a clutch at some point, but with any luck and a considerate driving style, the stocker may last you a while. As you know I'm on my 2nd FI system and my stock clutch as about 18k miles on it, and I have no problems (yet). And each day, my car sees aggressive shifting at high rpm.
Congrats again and welcome to the FI club!

Thanks for the advise. I'm trying not to ask a lot of n00b questions and do plently of research before I stick my foot in my mouth

I've follows an oil seprator thread on another forum to have a pretty good Idea what to get. That'll be my first post-blower mod. I'm hoping I won't need a clutch right away but have begun to start looking, just in case. Clue me on on the 26-spline input shaft.. is there a concise why/how thread floating around. I would be very interested.

Thanks Tom !! Glad to be part of the club !

Do M&H make a tire that'll fit a take-off 17" bullitt ?? I'd prefer not to have to buy a set of aftermarket rims if I have to. The M&H seem to be a really good tire so I'm looking forward to trying them out. Once I have a few hundred miles under my belt I'll try the strip. I don't want to show up and look like a complete fool not knowing how to handle the new power, ya know ?

Brian you can look at M&H 275/40s, I think they make some. I know for sure that Mickey Thompson makes a #3743 that is 275/40 and fits on stock wheels and they hook awesome- that is the tire that Brenspeed runs on all of their cars.

3743 = ET Streets bias-ply 26 x 11.5 x 17
3743r = ET Steet radial 275/40/17

I run the 3743 at the track and when I go out to play on the street. They hook great but will not handle at all and your back end will be a little squirrely from mixing bias-ply "ballons" and steel belted radials. Buy them from Summit usually the best price.
If you are going to use them as dual purpose get the 3743r which will handle better than the bias-ply.

M&H makes a 275/50/17 which is 28 tall and it will fit on the stock 17X8 wheels. M&H's run narrow, so the 275 is really like a 245/255. I would use this tire if you have 4.10's. If you have the stock gears then the M/T listed above is a good choice because its 26 tall.

Are you keeping the stock bottom end? 10psi?

Thanks ! I'm looking forward to making it out there and very excited to have Adam tune my car. I might just come down this thursday to check it out before the install. What time should I look to try to get there. If I decide to run my car do I need a helmet ? Will I need a helmet once I get the blower ?

I have the stock 3.55s and wanted to wait until I got the blower before I decided if I wanted another gear. Bottom end is stock for now, so I'm sticking with 10psi. I will go with a forged bottom end but I need to recover from this first

Oh Yeah, thanks for the tire advice. I know it's a very important part of the whole equation and getting feedback from the guys that know is very valuable to me.

Hey, thats how I learned. In addition to the boards, I would go to the track and watch the cars. The ones that kicked *** out of the hole---I would ask what there setup was. No need to re invent the wheel when you have others that have already figured it out.

So gates open at 4:00pm, first race starts at 5:00 pm.

Helmet will be needed. $20 to race, $10 to watch. When you go with the whipple, you will also need a 3.2A/1 fire jacket, as it will be a non factory power adder. You don't have to worry about a roll bar until you go 7.35 or faster.

I am not sure about the rest of the ST posse, but Ken3030 and I are going to be there for sure, weather permitting. Ken3030 has the 3.4 whipple, 700rwhp, and I am going to race him with the "dash cam" up and running.

Duly noted. I am going to really try and make it. Won't get off work until 5:00 and probably not out there before 6. Don't have a helmet or jacket, so I guess they're at least my next mods. My time will come.
