Was riding around today and my local drag stip owner was testing his car along with 2-3 locals. I asked him to make a 1 hit pass to see if the car ran any better since my 1st outing. That 1st day was the 70 mile pass on the car 9.05 1/8th and a 14.02 @ 97.39. Automatic, stock everthing. 3790 pounds. Now today was 3740 pounds(less gas) and that carbon trap thing fell out. Results: 8.87 at 78 in 1/8th. This should = 13.74 at about 98 mph. I use a formula to determine that. 1/8thet x 1.55 for my car = 1/4 mile et. Anyway some of the pick up would be the less weight and break in of the motor. But the trap removal must of helped. Now I am hopeful for even more gains.

Just brought home an '05 GT Premimum manual last night - are you talking about the "honycomb" looking trap in the intake tube right after the MAF? I was wondering what that was for and thinking about removing it??

Thanks guys - this '05 Stang is AWESOME!! I've had 5 different Mustangs over the years and this is the best by far!! My last one was an '00 GT Vert (5-speed) and while it was nice - the '05 is a completly different handling car. The new chassis is much stiffer and controlled feeling than the '00. Feels like this car may be a decent handling car as well!
I did remove the trap last night and the rubber snorkle end piece. Going to have to spring for a CAI real soon. Just need to get a few miles on the car first - want to have a good baseline. Also, for the person who was asking about warranty and the trap removal - just slip it back in b4 taking the car into the dealer - it shouldn't take more than a few minutes.
Glad I bought this '05 - great car!!

I don't doubt that taking the trap out improves performance. The question is 'How much'.
Questions:
1. What was the temp, humidity, and baro for both runs. Without this information 2 runs cannot be compared accurately.
2. Was the car driven for at least 100 miles with the trap out before the time run? Unless the computer is allowed to retrim the fuel requirement the performance gain from the increased airflow may be temporary.

Right... no need for it with the hood pins.

A friend of mine did that on his 86 cobra. He had an aftermarket fiberglass hood and hood pins. He washed his car and cleaned the engine. He lowered the hood and then the phone rang. When he came back out he decided to go for a ride. He then pulled out of his driveway and hammered it. He got about 40 feet before the hood flew up smashing the top of the car.
