General GT questions
Just around 19 mpg for city street driving to and from work (about 19 miles each way). Highway cruise is in the low 20's. On street driving a lot depends how fast you want to get to 45 mph. The faster the less mpg average you will get). I keep mine in 5th as much as I can too.
no problem with clunking... i have an auto tranny. drive 90% around town with o/d off and a heavy foot. getting about 14 mpg.
you should test drive the gt if you havent already. if the extra power doesnt do anything for you, then i guess you could just get another v6.

I keep hearing about some 06' Mustang GT around and with some incentives like 0% interest,X Plan, rebates etc. That right there would be just enough to save you big bucks and have a cool car to boot. The performance is awesome right off the showroom and a few mods like CAI,gear change and a aftermarket tune would make it that much sweeter. The economy and even the emissions on the 4.6 is hard to beat. The 4.6 3-valve engine is a proven performance engine in stock trim.Take your pick but the GT is by far the best bang for the buck.
I bought my son a v6 (he's paying me) and at the same time I bought a GT.......He wants the GT now, but he's not ready for it..That the dad in me speaking lol
Get the GT you'll absolutely fall in love with it

7500 miles on my '06 GT manual. No clunking in the front and averaging over 20 mpg city/hwy. Had it in the shop for rear-end clunk over bumps and they gave me a v6 loaner w/auto trans. MPG was close to 2 better on the v6 rental. The v6 drove OK, but the GT sounds and drives better all-around, IMO. I had the rental for a week. The rear end noise is still there, but the dealer and I both believe it is something to do with my Steeda UCA. I don't think you will regret getting a GT, if it doesn't put you in a financial bind.
Thanks for the info guys. Yeah the HP increase is tempting though I am still shaken up from the accident, so right now it's just the look of the car basically what you said the painted rockers, dual exhaust and nicer front end. I just don't know if I want the hassel of getting painted rockers and doing all my cosmetic mods again. We will see, talking with a real nice salesman
and with my Xplan (also got my new one from another very nice guy!) I hope I can get the GT.
WOW! averaging 20 with mild driving that sound like me, I am liking this anyone else care to share their gas mileage?

I'd say go with the GT. Having had both I've had more fun and enjoy the ride of the GT more then the 2005 v6 I had. Both have just had basic tunes and bolt ons, as for the clunking issues I havent had any on my 2007 GT but my 2005 v6 had it (there was a TSB for this on 2005 models). Good luck with your choice
Depending on how you drive, you can get pretty darn good gas mileage with a GT. The hypermiling techniques on sites like greenhybrid.com can boost your mileage by 4-5 MPG. If I drive like a normal horsepower crazed owner I get about 19-20 MPG city. But using hypermiling techniques I've been able to average 24.5 for a complete tank in the city.
Really appreciate all of you guys letting me know, Yeah I pretty much decided it's GT or bust on this. I will end up keeping the car longer this way and will be happy right off the bat. Just have to wait to get the check from the insurance company which was nice enough to have me send them my receipts for my mods and I may be getting full credit for all of them.
My thoughts on GT or V6 are as follows. If I am going to buy a new car, I'm going to get a car that I LOVE, not a car that I really like. I will probably never get to own a car like this again for a long time, due to my lower paying career choice (police, put up with lots of shi* and don't make shi*) and probably a family on the horizon. (minivans and soccer mom vans from here on out) I got a GT and I LOVE driving it every day.
