Don't feel bad, I've been messing with my Auto tune trans file ever since getting my 4.10s installed. Just got it nailed down last week after lots of iterations. Sometimes mods end up being so much more work then you expected they would be!

Not to sound chincy (sp), but is all that really needed with such low miles? I could understand it more with high mileage.

So question..What is the installation kit as mentioned in the below link.

http://www.americanmuscle.com/fopege4ra.html

Anything else needed???

Your existing bearings are pressed on the pinion. They can be damaged when being removed and swapped on too the new pinion. The kit has the necessay bearings, shims and the new crush collar to set up the proper pinion preload and clearances. It is not a "must" to get the installation kit but is a good idea in my opinion. You do not need to get the clutch rebuild kit.

So get the bearing kit and the installation kit? Actually only another $100 so ya pretty much worth it IMO.

P.S, did you notice (if u looked) that motive has 3.90's. Granted there not FRPP.

Not sure if that kit on American Muscle is a full kit or not. It may only be the bearings and races. It does not say it has the shims and crush collar. On CJ Pony the Ford kit listed there has everything you will need for like $140 complete. These are Ford parts . The $75 kit on Amercian Muscle seems to have the same components but are Motive brand. I don't like Motive stuff. Get the real Ford stuff is my opinion. Ask your installer what he thinks is the best thing to do.

Just make sure you order up a new tune for the 4.10s, don't rely on selecting them from the XCAL options and using the old one. You are going to need to adjust your shift and torque converter schedules for the different gearing. I not strange things can happen!

If your car has fairly low miles, get a FRPP gearset; they come with crush sleeve, nut, and a packet of shims. Go to your local dealer and get a new pinion seal and inner and outer pinion bearings and races. Make sure you also get their friction modifier and about three quarts of 75w-140 synthetic gear lube. Find a reputable, experienced installer and that should be it! Just had this job done yesterday on my '05 5-speed G.T., and I LOVE it! That's EXACTLY what these cars need. BTW, most dealers probably stock those bearings and races, and other parts. The side carrier bearings and races should be ok. Very seldom do those give us trouble in our dealership.

*I ordered both the gears and the bearing kit from AM. Got the 4.10 gears for $149 since that's what CJ had them going for. Just have to buy the friction modifier from Ford and I'm set.

Hey Colby,
My car goes in tomorrow morning for the 4:10's. I have been on the fence for 5 years about what gear to go with in my auto car. Bounced between 3:73's and 4:10's a hundred times. Colby made up my mind after his install. Can't wait.

Thanks guys.......being an old man... if I made the decision on what I believe is being sensible I would have chosen the 3:73's but Colby being young and riding the edge of the razor sort of speak pushed me to the 4:10's. I think I will have to make a trip to the dragstrip for a test-n-tune night when it cools off this fall to see what this puppy can do. This car already seems quicker than my 96 Cobra with a KenneBell on it. I would like to know what it can do.

I've yet to even drop the hammer with the 4.10's. Gave em about 200+ break in miles and just haven't had the chance ( right location) yet.

Interested to see what ur cruising speed/rpm will be compared to mine.

Just got the call that the car is done. I also had them change the fuel filter since I have 33K on the clock. I have been home for 2 hours and been changing oil on tractors and have a couple of beers in me so I will just wait to pick it up in the morning.

I'd say... 3.73s for a manual, and 4.10s for an auto...

Well right or wrong I have an auto trans and the 4:10's are installed. But it will be tomorrow morning before I know what they feel like.
