Is there any brand recomendation that wont have the whining noise that so many get when they change gear ratios? And also for a automatic daily drive no long distance at all, changing from 3.28 to 4.1 would it be to much?

 

I believe that FRPP gears don't whine , at least my 373's don't , and that it's the Motive gears that people have a problem with ...

 

from all the i've read, the Ford racing is what I would go with. And you can't beat the price.

 

None of them whine if set correctly, all of them whine if not. That's been my experience, anyway, in the hundred or so I've set up.

 

If you install them and if they whine,is there a way to make em quiet?

 

Supposedly the best chance of having no whine with an install are the Ford Racing gears. 3.31, 3.55, 3.73, and 4.10

Some have 3.90s that say they don't whine and some have 3.73's that say they do. It is up to the install, but probability would show from all the posts I've seen that your best chances of no whine lie with the Ford gears and a reputable installer who has done many a Ford rear end before.

 

Yeah your best bet is FRPP gears as everyone else is suggesting and even more important to find someone that is experienced with gear installs.

To top it off, FRPP gears are really not anymore expensive or cheaper than the competition (i.e. Motive, Richmond etc.)

 

I have a set of 4.10s and only a very slight wine on deceleration between 50-40 mph. There's much debate about properly installed gears and how much noise they should make. Also some are more sensitive than others about the sounds/vibrations our cars make.

I'm actually on my 4th set of gears and second axle assembly. The entire rear end of my car has been gone over with a fine toothed comb by several installers and I've even had NVH testing done to try and isolate a small vibration at 80+ MPH.

Bottom line is your car is going to come back sounding different then it did. Could be better, could be worse, but it will be different. These cars are horrible about transmitting noise, vibration and harmonics into the cabin and the more you mod the worse it'll become.

... and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Is it enough to just buy the Gears or should i buy the complete kit with new bearings and all that?

 

I had 373 gears installed in my 08 Rag Top Auto. Ford gears - just the gears. No noise at all. I'm running 380 HP at the wheels and the 373's really woke up mid range. I think 410's are too steep for you.

 

FRPP all day... My 3.73s don't whine at all

 

FRPP 4.10 is what I am running. I had a set of Motive 4.10's installed first and they whined even though they were set up right. The shop said that that would prob happen but at the time they didnt have any FRPP gears in stock. They said they would install the Motives and then change them out when the FRPP gears came in. They whined on decel mostly. About 2 wks later the FRPP gears came in and they switched them out for me, no more whine. I also have an automatic and at freeway speeds they dont bother me much, but they do tach higher than 3.73's If you dont go long distances on the freeway, go 4.10, if you do then maybe 3.73 might be better for you. Just remember if you go 4.10, turn off your OD when driving around town or else the car will feel sluggish.

 

This is what I belive too. I have Auto and 4.10's and love them. A friend is using the Motive gears lately and all his customers are happy and he agrees they are quiet.
My car is a year round DD with a road trip now and then.
The 4.10's added 500 RPM's to driving, only giving up about 2 mpg at freeway driving. If I drive easy I get 15-16 mpg around town. I think that's all in the tune, to get posted mpg with my 4.10's & supercharger w/CAI. Now I rarely drive good all the time, so I average 13-14 mpg most the time.
So, why not have all the fun there when you want it.
My vote is for 4.10's installed correctly! And enjoy........

FRPP gears, synthetic oil, friction modifier and a GOOD installer....3 years now and no problems of any kind. Gears are a must have mod.

 

Which gears did yu go with? Like 3.78,4.1

 

For the install would you guys recommend a transmission shop? I cant think of anyone who would do a perfect job out by me. I guess the Ford dealer but hell do I really want to pay out the ***? i guess you get what you pay for?

 

Dealers suck,they seriously didnt even know how to add oil to the transmission,they told me it uses a special machine bla bla bla,I did it by myself,and bout that gears I still havent got to install them,Im going for camshafts,delete plates,new custom vinyls,black out roof,and then going to install da gears when I do everything at once.

 

Can anyone explain why FRPP gears are cheaper then Motive ones . Usually better things are more expensive?
