Gear Dilemma!!!!

Gear Dilemma!!!!
Ok heres the story, i want gears in my automatic 06 and have no clue which ones to get. MY tuner evolution says 4.10 all the way, and so do some members on this forums(i used search) i believe donw and cleveland were the ones. Other tuners such as bamachips and especially alternative auto say no higher than 3.73, with aa recomending stock. So what is the scoop? does anyone have and before and after times or anything. What about 3.90?
Any input will help as i plan on doing this mod very soon.

Well you know the saying about opinions
I have an auto and 4.10's and I love them. Does it make you faster in the 1/4 mile? I cut .1 off my ET with them when I cut a flat 2.0 60 ft time on street tires. Will it effect your gas mileage? Yes, if you spend your time doing lot's of highway driving at 90+ you'll be turning over 3k rpms and your gas mileage will suffer. If you spend your time at lower rpms then the difference is negligible and I'm still able to get about 20 mpg overall. Those high speed roadtrips I get about 17 mpg.
Doug seemed to have a problem with them short-shifting 2nd gear. I thought the same thing until I payed close attention, and it wasn't short shifting, it's just that second gear comes up so quick it SEEMS that way.
I've watched the tach closely and it winds all the way up to redline on every shift.
Both Doug and AA have their points, but I would have to say it's up to what you really want.
I'm all about what it's like driving overall, not just the 1/4 mile. And in that regard I love where the powerband is now. Combined with a Bamachips tune the throttle is very touchy and response is immediate off the line with the gears. I personally like my car turning 3k at cruising speeds.
"I" wouldn't change them to something lower

Personally I think 4.10s are going to be too much gear for an automatic street car...I have 390s in my manual and I love them
If I were you Id look into 390s or 373s

I have had 3.73s and 4.10s. I drive a lot and I will tell you that 4.10s are too much for the freeway driving I do 80mph tach 3000rpm. But I love them at the track I am going to change back to 3.73s to make it more streetable. After all my car is my DD.

go 4.10 and don't look back. I have a manual, and 4.10's if i had it to do over I would put in 4.33's. I was where you are a couple years back and I almost went with 3.73 because allot of people said 4.10 was too much for highway. I am so glad I went with 4.10's anyway.
Do it! you will be happy

I have 4.10s in my auto, it never sees a track, I don't think they are to steep.
with stock wheels and tires, I spin 2000rpm at 60mph, and 3000rpm at 80mph (give or take)

Pretty sure when I do mine it will be 4.10's.
I've done alot of searching and reading and think they will suit me just fine. Mine is an 06 Auto also. In 8 months of owning it, I've put about 6500 miles on it. Normally stay in town, work is less than two miles away, once every 3 weeks or so I'll hit a job site>>maybe 15 mile one way. Also in that 8 months, Maybe 5 trips to a neighboring town 60 miles one way, couple trips to San Diego 180 miles one way, OC Cruise 240 miles one way.
With all that in mind, I feel 95% of my driving is just local city street cruising, usually at 35mph. From what I've read my mileage may actually increase, due to getting into OverDrive quicker. Generally I drive under the speed limit to enjoy the ride...and laugh at the ricers trying to show off, and the gas the Big Trucks must be sucking when they rev past!
If I was driving highway miles to and from work, family, etc. I'd probably go 3.73, maybe 3.90. Think about how you drive, where you put the miles on, and make an educated decision based on your performance desires. For me...I want seat of the pants get up and go. Good luck!

I drive with a pretty light foot when I'm in town (mainly because I don't want to attract alot of attention or get a ticket on my squeeky clean record of 8+ years). Even when the speeds are 30-40mph, my mileage still was worse than before the gears.
Don't count on any increased fuel efficiency. But if it helps sell the wife/GF on it, play it out

Don't forget tire size. I had a stock 2002 manual, with stock rims and wheels and 3.73's. Loved it. So now I have 295/45R18s on my 2007 manual and went with 4.10s in part because I just wanted to try them but also because the wheel diamter is 28.5" compared to 27" stock and this offsets half of the difference between 3.73s and 4.10s. I see from your sig you have stock 18"ers but it might be useful info to some...

If I have 3.90s and Im running 295/35s in the back and 255/40s in the front what would mine be?
You go from topping out at 140ish mph in 4th gear with the 355s to topping out at around 133ish mph with the 373s and around 121 mph with the 410s.
