Gauge pod Options
Ok, I've done the search and all the threads are really old. I already have the SOS with 2 gauges. I am upgrading to a SC soon and need a boost gauge and fuel pressure, problem is my two SOS gauge pods are taken. What are my options on pods or areas to put these 2 new gauges in? I'm trying to go for a sleeper type look..Any help would be appreciated!

I had four gauges, but only the double SOS pillar pod. I hadn't seen any dash pods that I like. So I decided to put my other two gauges in the center vent panel. It took some work, but the results were worth it to me.

What did it take to do it? Will I mess up my airbag system?

Getting the center panel out basically required me to remove just about everything else on the dash first. I had a really hard time getting the passenger side airbag assembly out of the dash. It is held in by 16 clips (6 bottom, 6 top, and 2 on each side). I got the bottom and sides loose, but couldn't get my hand up into the area to reach the top clips. Fortunately, Mrs. don_w was able to get her hand up to the top airbag clips, so that eventually came out. But it took a while. There are two screws to the center panel that can be removed once it's out. But, there are also two screws under the main gauge cluster panel on the driver's, so it has to come out too.
This was a bit of a PITA, but I really like the way these gauges in the center vent area turned out! Here are some pics showing the "demolition" of the dash. Also there is a pic of what the panel looked like after I cut the holes, and the back and front sides with the gauges inserted. Plus there are a couple more pics after they were installed back in the car.

What size of drill did you use to cut the holes? I assume you used the 2 and 1/16th size gauges right?

Yes, 2-1/16" gauges. I used a 2" hole saw to rough in the holes, then a small round file to clean them up for the gauges to fit.

If you're asking me, I just used the trim rings that came with the gauges... no other bezels.
It went back together easier than it came apart. haha. And since the car was on jackstands for a few months last year, I had plenty of time to do it.

wow man that looks really good! how long did it take you? did you have any type of guidance or just start tearing stuff apart? can this be done in a day? i really want to put in 1 gauge and there is really no better place than this.

did you disconnect the battery while you did all this? i have never messed with an airbag before so i was wondering if there is anything special i should know...
i will obviously be very careful messing with it and installing/uninstalling it
