FRPP Suspension costs and fitting
#3
While I don't have the whole FRPP kit, my suspension was much more invoved and I was charged 4hrs labor plus $60 for the alignment. I haven't used the dealer for anything since one quoted me $200 labor to change the differential fluid!

WHAT?!
I swapped my Saleen Racecraft suspension in 3 hours... so, if FRPP pack has new rear sway and strut brace, I can do it in 3 hours and 20 minutes... it really can't take 10 hours, especially from "highly trained Ford technician"! They're trying to rob you man!

I've seen techs on their free time change old fox body suspensions completely out for full FRPP suspensions including 5 lug conversions and brake upgrades in half that time. Price for the kit sounds good though. Sounds like a service writer is simply taking every component independently and pulling up labor rates per part. They should ask a tech and get a quote as a project and not a repair.

I did shocks/struts, swaybars, panhard brace in 4 hours laying in a driveway with a couple jacks and two jackstands...
buy some tools and a service manual and do it yourself.
a couple pieces every weekend and you'll be done in no time... (dont know whats all in that pack your getting)
and if something goes wrong you dont have to rely on some tool at the dealership to troubleshoot it.

The labor time is way, way too long for the install, IMHO. With the alignment included, labor hours shouldn't exceed 4 to 5 hours tops. The labor rate on the other hand is typical these days.

Well I just had the front and rear sway bar installed, and that only took him about 45 minutes. The feeling is much tighter. I didnt want to get a harder ride, so for now I am sticking with stock struts and shocks. I will deal with all the suspension braces etc. first.Sounds like there trying to rip you. Look elsewhere.

I had the same kit put on 2 weeks ago. right price for the kit but way out of wack for the time. I paid less per hour but paid for 4.6 hours at 68 an hour and then for a front alighment which was 55.

Thanks for your help it all sounded a bit pony to me. I would love to take up all your offers of help and I would gladly do it myself, I am in NY so a road trip to LA would be great but a bit too much time off work.
I am English and moved to NY about three years ago, back home I had all the tools and have attempted many similar jobs myslef, without the help of a willing parent and friends it is a bit task to do on your own
My wife is giving me grief about this for those of you that have the FRPP kit would you recommend just installing the springs 200 bucks plus 80 bucks a spring or going the whole hog and risking divorce......

choices
1. hog, she will get over it
2. do springs now and over the new several months do the rest
3. find someone on this forum local to you that will help you for Pizza and Beer
It can even be English Beer....

i would say go for broke and do the kit
i did mine in an hour and fourty five minutes (i had a lift and air tools)
on the ground with jackstands and hand tools, three or four hours
rent a strut compressor or just take your struts to a shop and have the strut tops removed. you can assemble the new struts with springs without a strut compressor (the springs are short enough no compressor needed.)
an other option would be to buy a pair of strut tops and just leave the stock stuff assembled.
