FRPP/Hurst designed shifter
FRPP/Hurst shifter
I haven't see this come across the boards, I may have missed it, so I thought I'd spread the word if no one else has yet.

Thanks for posting about this, because I was going to do this shortly. I called the nearest dealership listed as a Ford Racing seller and installer and asked them about this and they had no idea. They knew about the Steeda Triax and asked me at least a couple of times if that is what I meant, and I explained to them that it wasn't, and gave them the part number and info from the page. They said they would look into it and call me back. They didn't call me back yet today, but hopefully they will next week, or else I'll ping them again.
$210 doesn't seem like too much, and it's cheaper than the Tri-Ax (right? I'm just going by the Steeda list price), so I'm going to find out how much they want to charge me to install. Sure, I could prolly do it myself, but my only car work so far has been my K&N CAI install, and while that was easy, I don't think I'm quite equipped for a shifter install
I will certainly post when/if I get more details and any info on availability.

Anyone could do the shifter install.
Here are some quick step by step directions for the Hurst shifter install. The others should be fairly similar. Good luck...
1. Take off stock shift ball and shift boot.
2. Take apart center console. (2 Screws)
3. Take off rubber dust boot. (2 lips...you'll understand)
4. Take out hex nut from trans link rod (13mm)
5. Take out bolt from front bushing (10mm)
6. Take out back two nuts from mount location (10mm w/ extension)
7. Pull out shifter from above.
8. Remove plastic bushings from stock unit (Where 13mm hex nut goes)
9. Remove metal sleaves from front bushing from stock unit
10. Remove mounting bracket from rear bushing from stock unit
11. Place plastic bushings into bottom of new shifter
12. Place metal sleeves in front bushing in new shifter
13. Lube everything up ( I said LUBE)
14. Carefully drop shifter into place from above (Be patient, no need to grind)
15. Replace bolt in front bushing
16. Replace hex nut in trans link rod
17. Replace 2 bolts in bracket in back bushing
18. Attach shift handle (shaft)
19. Relace dust boot (2 lips)
20. Put console back together (2 screws)
Now you're in business...

There is another 05-06 one listed as well but w/o details ... wonder what that one is?

Does everyone agree that the FRPP website sucks?

Hey, thanks. I'm ordering the Hurst shifter and t-bar handle, and wondered if I could pull this off without a lift. Thanks.

Why are people saying that you need to have your car on a lift to do this swap?

I really don't know. But I am 110% positive that you do not need a lift to install a Hurst Shifter! I couldn't imagine having to use one with any other shifter either. You do NOT need to drop the driveshaft! You do NOT need to grind the back of the shifter to make it through the opening!
I hope this helps some, and gives others hopes to do this as a self install.
I myself never had any experiance working on cars other than some stereo work and other 12v accesories!
I have installed everything myself on my car, and it fells great! Plus I don't think anyone would have done a better install, or at least gave as much effort as I have.
Good luck to anyone getting a shifter! I hated the stock one.

Either way, I've ordered it and will do it myself using the floor jack and stands. I think we're going to buy our own spring compressor and do the Steeda springs in our garage too.
Thanks again for the step-by-step. Well written and confidence inspiring!

I installed my Hurst shifter w/Rhino Ramps only...I'm a pretty big guy, and it was a squeeze for sure, but not bad once I got past the cross-member. It is a big help to have someone in the car to help guide the shifter in place and hold it while you bolt it in. The hardest part, in my opinion is the re-install of the inner dust boot around the bottom of the shifter. Take note of how it positioned when removing the factory shifter. Not only does it need to seat in the tunnel, the bottom of the boot needs to go around the base of the shifter...very tricky, but it can be done.

I'm also interested in the FRPP/Hurst shifter. Specifically, I'd like to hear a comparison of it to the Steeda Tri-Ax.

Yeah, I'd have to agree about the dust boot being the hardest part.
We have the FRPP/Hurst shifter in stock at CJ Pony Parts where I work. They sell for $195 and use the stock stamped steel frame with upgraded bushings and a steel ring around the shifter. Its nowhere as beefy as the Steeda or Pro 5.0 units but does cost less if you are looking for a shifter on a budget. I have not installed one yet but I cannot see it being a huge upgrade using the stock Ford frame and no positive stops...

Leif Johnson? I asked how much for FRPP 4.10 gears, parts and installation. They said they would call me back...they never did.

I was not expecting them to call me back (I don't expect much from dealerships any more) but was pleasantly surprised that they did, and within less than 24 business hours. I talked to Keith, so you could try calling and asking for him and see if you make better progress.
