Smile FRPP 3.73 gears

Hey guys,

Can anyone tell me if the FRPP 3.73 (8.8) gears from Here are the "A" ford part and not the "M" part?

Does anyone know if there is a better price out there, and is a "shim kit" needed if buying a new set of gears?

Thanks!

-Steven

I don't know for sure, I'd call and ask, but I do know they have a seperate gear set available labeled "motive performance gears" so maybe the Ford racing ones are the "A" that your looking for.

The ones that end with "A" are Ford Racing. The ones that end with "M" are motive. I believe that Ford also makes motive, but the motive gears tend to whine. I believe it is because they are harder than the normal Ford racing gears.

You should not need anything other than the parts that come with the gear set other than a couple of quarts of gear oil .I used Royal Purple which has the friction modifier in it. Amsoil is also recommened. I had my gears installed down here in Orlando by Jake Lamotta at his race shop they or any good shop will have anything needed to do the install.I did add the new low profile rear axle girdle from Ford racing adds a little extra support if you plan on racing.

Ok, so "Ford Racing M-4210-B 8.8" Ring & Pinion install kit" are not needed? Everything that is needed comes with the gears in the box? I just want to make sure so I can get it all orderd at the same time. I'm going to go with the Royal Purple gear oil as well. Thanks for the help!

Well this is totally frustrating. I can not find a shop around here for less then 750 to install the gears. I went ahead and bought them from BOI, was a great price. At this rate I'm tempted to just try and do it myself.... which will probably end up in disaster but I am not going to spend 750+ to just have some gears installed.

I think you are right about that. I was assuming it was for all gear sets, but it looks like it was just an issue with the 4.10s. Thanks for clearing that up!

w00t! I found place out of Lubbock that will do it for 275+oils. I have to drive the car 120 miles to take it there but heck for that price I'm in like Flynn. IF anyone in the West/North Texas area needs s197 or any mustang work for that matter, go to Protech in Lubbock. These guys are bad ***.

might want to reserve that quote till after the install, if everything goes well. They are so far away, make sure everything is good to go before you drive back home, make sure those gears dont wine. Do a search on proper gear break in procedures.

You might want to go with new -F373N, these are totally new design and are much better than A's and especially Motive (M) gears...

"New manufacturing technology utilizing a Face Hob Process which features a single pass pinion tooth machining operation compared to a conventional three pass process for machining. CNC cut and lapped gear teeth. Higher strength and better quality gears are produced with the Face Hob Process. NOTE: These new gears look a little different, the gear teeth are cut on a different angle and the ring gear has a bevel on the back of the gear."
