Front Strut Mounts - Steeda or GT500 ? Have strut popping...

My Stang has that annoying strut popping since I installed my Ford Racing springs, and I read that replacing the crappy factory strut mounts with the Steeda mounts should resolve the issue.

However, I saw the GT500 mounts on the Moss Motors catalogue for $70, much cheaper than the Steeda pieces ($300), and according to Ford Racing, 28% stronger than the ones found on the GT.

Will the GT500 mounts be good enough to resolve my issue, or should I go ahead and cough up for the Steeda ones?

Input appreciated!

Sure they are 28% stronger? I read them as being 28% stiffer (as in increased durometer)

Well, per the Moss catalague:

"Ford Racing designed these front strut mounts for the 2007 GT500. They are 28% stronger than those found on your GT. If you've done other suspension performance upgrades and are cornering hard, you should invest in stronger front strut mounts."

In either case, would they help resolve my popping issue?

did you change your suspension?? did you reuse your stock mounts or did you buy brand new ford strut mounts?

if you re-used your stock ones on your aftermarket suspension, thats why you have the popping. they are a 1 time use only.

yes the GT500 mounts would work as well. the only problem is the studs that come out of the mount are going to be very long, they were made to compensate for the STB on the GT500. gonna be funny looking having long studs stick out that long under your hood.

I got the Steeda's a long time ago and haven't had any popping since then. In my opinion it was well worth the cost ...

Well, the only thing I've replaced are the springs, and yes, I did reuse the stock mounts. I was not aware that they were meant for one-time use, but I guess it makes more sense now.

Hmmm, I think I'll go ahead and cough up for the Steeda units. They look very solid.

Anytime you pull those springs from those mounts you are supposed to replace them. When I pulled mine the stock mount was broken, literally cracked. I used the J&M camber/caster mounts and am very happy. I'm sure the Steeda are good too.

I got the updated ones from ford (warranty) and put them in myself when I did the strut/spring swap. Nice and quiet now.

Another related question I have is do the aftermarket caps also account for the clunking issue from the front end(tsb 07-18-02)?

This is the main reason I havent gotten aftermarket caps yet, I never want that clunking to be back! made the car sound like it was decades old.

maybe I'll give steeda a call and see what they say, but I think I'll get more accurate info here on the boards.

Use the updated Ford upper mounts. Mine has been quiet now for over a year and I had the GT500 mounts installed as a fix, but they didn't work.

I had the popping issue on my 05. When the TSB came out, I had the redesigned mounts installed and that fixed the popping noise (VERY irritating noise, I must say!)

Since then, they have been off twice: once to install the Eibach springs and then again two years later to install the D-Spec struts. To this day, I do not have any popping issues at all. And yes, I DID know they were "one time use" parts, but I choose to reuse them anyway.

Are the springs clocked correctly? and did you line the strut mounts up correctly (they are indexed)?

In any event per the FRPP site, the GT500 mounts are 28% stiffer in durometer.

One time use = more money for Ford = B.S.
After years and years of reusing parts, suddenly they are one time use, yeah right. Next thing they will tell us the lug nuts are a one time use, then maybe the hood latch..........

Thanks!

While I'd love to do the Steeda thing, I need to be financially responsible and these should do job.
