forging and cylinder heads questions

So my plan is to Whipple S/C. My goal is just over 500 Hp at the wheels.
I am going to forge the bottom end with this http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/...t.phtml?p=1552
Q-For forging is there anything else I would need?

Additionally I have a chance to get Livernois stage 2 ported heads. If I get these I plan on doing them at the same time.
Q- Is there much benefit once I add the S/C?
Q- if so should I also upgrade the springs and retainer clips for S/C?

last Q- Am I correct in thinking that there is no reason to do cams if I am S/C ing?

thanks for any input. I just don't know much about internals.

stock cams are fine when running S/C. There are guys pushing 800 RWHP with the stock cams. The heads are not necessary either. The Livernois are stock heads that have been given a CNC port job, and I think 1 mm larger valves. I would do the heads rather than the cams.
You still need head gaskets and gasket kit and new ARP stud kit and a few other goodies. Labor to remove and rebuild and re-install will be painful I bet. Livernois bluprints and internal balances their long blocks. Who will do your longblock?

How much boost at 800 hp?

The stock heads can pass enough air without restriction for 500hp, a set of ported heads (generally, and based on what level of porting) are good up to around 600hp, then they become a restricition in the system, however slight it might be.

The issue here isn't how much power the heads can make, rather one of maintianing or increasing the reliability of the engine by reducing the resistance to air flow into the cylinder (boost conquers all, but at a price, and boost is really the measurment to resistance in the intake tract).

With a high flowing intake tract (well exhaust as well) its possible to make more power with a lower level of observed boost.

The problem with a restiction in the system is the nessecary increase in boost to flow the air required to make the power in the engine and when you increase the boost in an engine, you also compress the air more which heats it up making the engine more prone to detonation requiring a reduction in the allowable dynamic compression ratio of the engine (which lowers engine efficeincy).

uberpony- i am not sure i understand you question about who will do your long block. I thought this rotating assembly couold og in the stock block. Ithere is a shop here who will install and hone the cylinders for propper fit and machine the head surface if i get the heads. so for making 550hp at the wheels are the stock heads up to it or should i go for the cnc ported heads?

This is a complete rotating assembly kit except for the main bearings. You will have to gut your block to install it. There is a better block, but its more money yet.

Stock 05+ block is reported to be stronger than the Teksid. Which block are you referring to?

To the original poster, all you need to run 550whp is rods and pistons. The heads, cams, and intake manifold work fine for that power level. The stock rods are the weak link in the OEM engine. I don't know if I would upgrade the crank for 550whp, but it might be worth the money to do it all at once.

thanks guys. I found a guy selling heads for $800 cheaper than I can get them here in hawaii and before I jumped at it I wanted to be sure I needed them. I know for N/A they are great, but I wasn't sure for S/c. I'll just forge it. cheaper that way too. I had considered a new block, but I heard you can run into issues wits everything from the stock engine bay. anyway I would like to keep it as close to basic original car. thanks again
