Ford Racing X Pipe?
#21
My GTA mufflers, the one from the Shelby GT-H and Shelby GT shipped today. So hopefully in less than a week I will get them and install them and be able to post some pics and give you all a report. As far as sound quality with the stock mufflers and the FRPP X-Pipe, it is very good. The X-Pipe made the stock exhaust sound even better, just slightly louder and more aggressive. There is no drone or resonance. So for those that want just the X-Pipe I think you will be happy. I too like the sound of stock, but really just wanted something more aggressive sounding, and with better tips than stock. The GTA mufflers fit the bill as they have 4" double walled stainless tips, and are a little louder than stock. I should know just how much in a few days.

If they are running this x pipe on the GT-H and the Shelby GT it has to be 50 states legal. They probably will sell more Shelby GT's and Hertz GT's in California than any other state. I can't see them putting non-smog or noise compliant equipment on these cars if they aren't legal in all 50 states.
BTW my Silver Horse Racing rear panel cost more than the FRPP X pipe and it is worth 0 horsepower!

Another option is the MAC x-pipe. You also have to cut into the stock h-pipe, though. It is stainless and comes with off-road legs for about $200. I like the option of trying out the off-road legs for not too much more than the FRPP x-pipe.

Sorry but that does not hold true. It is on the car and the car had to pass the emission testing in order for them to make it Cali legal that has nothing to do with the part by itself being sold in the aftermarket. Now if they paid to get the X Pipe on it's own CARB certified then yes it is legal and if they did this it does not state it on the site as of yet.,

FYI... In California, you have six years before you need to go through a smog inspection.

Does anyone know if this pipe is stainless or aluminized?
The similar bassani X-pipe I found was aluminized steel (not the full catted one)
If its stainless, i'll consider it. Corsa also makes a similar after-cat X-pipe

The Ford Racing one is Stainless and Bassani make an Aluminized version and a stainless version. As for the part being Cal. legal I personally would not even worry about it. Most smog tech now diddle **** and what exactly is legal and not legal. In fact most think all CAI are not legal. Besides who is going to crawl under the car to see a X Pipe and how would be know if it was not legal just by looking at it? I probably wopuld not worry abot it. Buty i like to let people know this kind of stuff before they go spend there money.

I'm sure you guys have nothing to worry about regarding the X Pipe since it's still behind the stock cats. What I'm just wondering how you guys think it would sound with Flowmasters. If it sounds more aggressive and a little louder like you guys say then that would be on my wishlist if once my wallets starts building up agian.

I just returned from San Diego, where I had the opportunity to rent a GT-H for a couple of days. I'm now all excited about changing out the exhaust on my 07 GT/CS Vert for the X-pipe, and perhaps adding the FRPP exhaust as well. A couple of my buddies are urging me to rethink this idea. I'm hearing that I've got a great sound with the current setup (which I agreed with till my fling with the GT-H), and that I will be disappointed with the resonance with the top down? Any opinons are appreciated.

I have the Borla S-Type axleback,
great low aggressive sound (as most of you know)
Was considering this X Pipe,
but how does an X change the sound?
Does it raise the pitch as some have said?
I like that down low burble and don't want to lose it.

Sorry that I started 2 threads Graig. I know you have been repeating yourself. My X pipe is on the way and if it improves the sound and I get acouple more horses in the process then I'm a happy guy!

FWIW, I would caution anyone with baffled mufflers, e.g. Flowmasters among others, to try and listen to another car running baffled mufflers and an X-pipe before getting an X-pipe for themselves. I've always found baffled mufflers to sound much better with H-pipes vs. X-pipes.
Straight-through mufflers like Borlas, Magnaflows, etc. typically sound good with either one, although I like them better with X-pipes.
My $0.02 . . .
