The Boss 260 and 290 (290 kw ~ 388hp) V8s are both developed and built in Australia. According to the ford.au website, the Boss line is the only line of Ford V8's built there. They are both Iron Block and Aluminum 4V heads. I would imagine the cost would be astronomical. The 290 is hand built for god sakes. No Friggin Way.

All,
Well, this is how it went down. I went to the MCA Nationals West Coast Car Show in Lacey, Washington. First thing I see when I park in the '05 section is the big SVT semi parked with a Ford GT right in front of it. Needless to say, after we did our show prep, I scooted straight over to ask all those burning questions.
So, first question out of my mouth was what was the latest I've heard about the rumored FRPP Supercharger. It is in the works, he says, they're nailing down who the supplier will be. Now, for the warranty freaks like me, I asked about that, too. According to him, if installed at a Ford service shop, it will not void the factory warranty!
I also asked about the new Shelby Cobra, and if there were any other special editions in the works. According to him, they are contemplating a "Boss" edition with the 4V 5.4L from Ford Australia, which should produce about 385 naturally aspirated horsepower! I told him if he needed a test mule to look me up!
And jsut for fun, I thought I'd ask if I could take a picture of my Mustang with the GT. To my surprise, he said yes! He even moved the display carts out of the way so I could get right in beside it. Wattaguy! So, for your viewing pleasure...

Is the Aussie V8 Aluminum? If not I may be inclined to stick with the 4.6 and save the extra 100lbs

I'd say it's worth it. And with as bulky as the '05 is, if we get a redesign in a few years, hopefully they'll make it smaller and lighter.

The motor (the 290 anyway). It is hand built in Australia from all hand selected parts. And it's going into (over there) like a $65k car. How could they build enough of them, ship them over here, and put them in mustangs, and keep the price under the Cobra's price of 39k???

:worship: That's what the mustang should get if and when GM or Dodge come out with a "pony car". And if they don't it still needs it. 385hp N/A motor with forged internals and a 6-speed. Now add a small amount of boost and there wouldn't be much that could come close.
There's another thread asking about a motor swap and that's what I'd like to put in if I had the cash. By the way anybody got a guess as to price of just the motor  ? I don't have the money, but in 5 or so years when I can buy another new car I plan on making my 05 into a streetrod. I guess I should start saving now.

Actually, I asked him the same thing. This is what I got: They "gave" the engine to Ford Australia, and it is in fact built down there, not here in the States. They tried to ask Ford Australia to make some units to ship back here to the USA just for this, and Ford Australia said no, they can't make enough to supply the demand "Down Under." Since there is no manufacturing plant here that can make them, they would have to re-tool for it.
Not saying who's right or wrong, but this is exactly what he told me.

If they really are assembling it in Australia, they are getting the parts from the US & Canada. There is no way Ford Aus. is casting the block, heads and other parts. Sounds like they are getting most of the pieces from N American and then assembling them down under.

Wherever it's built, I want one!
Seriously, you have to hand it to our brethren in Australia. Given that beast, they certainly know how to appreciate a performance car.
For that matter, why not import that car (the MkII on that site)? A four-door, powerhouse sedan. Sounds like a perfect competitor to the Charger to me. I know the Australians have different emissions requirements than us, but how much would have to be changed? Or would the shipping be prohibitively expensive, similar to the Pontiac GTO/Holden Monaro?

someone find out who their manufacturer is

Looks like a Whipple to me, from what I have read/heard they were originally contracted to do the S/C for the Cobra but were not used because they could not keep up with the units per day request from Ford. What do you do with all of that data/research? Looks like you strike up an aftermarket deal.

That link also says, "right above the Developed in partnership with Whipple" that Supercharger swap kits available now for the 2003-2004 Mustang Cobra and coming soon, the 1999-2004 F-150 Lightning.
It doesnt say anything yet about the manufacturer......If it is whipple, how are they compared to Saleen and KB? At least we know its a twin screw...thats a good thing.

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but according to the Cobra's kit description:
"Installation of this kit will void your new vehicle engine warranty"
I think it will be the same case for the '05 and '06 kits. If you got a Ford shop that says it won't void it, I'd get that in writing...word of mouth ain't worth squat if something goes wrong.
Any word on pricing? I checked over at John Bleakely - nothing yet, the part# is too new.
