After comparing the Borla stingers, and Steeda version along with the FRPP..I stand corrected guys, you were correct all along, the FRPP version are made by Borla..Guess, I just assumed if the FRPP cold air kit, is made by Steeda, that the same would also be true, concerning the FRPP axle back..Therefore, you all have my apologies..I was wrong

This picture use to have the Borla logo on it. Its the FRPP V-6 muffler. It looks just like the GTAs. I'm guessing Borla can build a unique muffler for a big customer like Ford.

Ok, Tres, I'm following what you're saying on this now. Whenever you used the word "oval" I thought you were referring to the Stingers. I was comparing the "S" to the oval, milder ones. The Borlas (oval) and the mystery mufflers are different.

I bought Flowmasters but I don't want the exhaust that loud. Somewhere between stock and Flowmaster would be good. This sounds like it might be a good choice.

Has anyone actually gotten the M-5230-GTA Mufflers installed and can comment on them?

Ok, yes I should have searched first. I see most were interested in the M-5230-5GT...hard to gauge about the GTA as most opted for the louder ones. Thanks for your help.

I do remember reading somebody putting on the GTA's and not being too happy with them as they weren't much more than stock. I have the "S" type/5GT and they sound great. Louder and deeper for sure, but not obnoxious.

Thanks for the reply. I put my stock mufflers back on and rode a round for a few days and I must admit I missed the sound of the Flowmasters. So I put them back on again. (Dang...that now makes 3 times I've been on my back switching out!) I decided I will probably stay with them for awhile since it will probably be a pain in the rear to sell them and ship them and I'll loose money on the deal right off the bat. Really the only thing I don't like about the Flowmasters is when you accelerate from low rpm. They have a quite a low drone then, especially with a CAI. Once the RPM's are up I think they sound great.

You might want to just stick with the Flowmasters then. There was a side by side Borla "S"/Flowmaster vid (no longer working) on here and the Borlas were definitely louder/deeper. If the Flow drone is bothersome to you the Borla "S" would be too much and the GTA may well be close to what you already have. Theres probably a good reason you don't hear much feedback on the GTA's around here and it's not because guys/gals on this site haven't done a ton of experimenting with everything out there.

Thanks for the reply. I think I will stick with the Flowmasters for now. I'm getting used to them and do like the sound. Don_W suggested the Magnaflows in another thread and they may be what I should have gotten in the first place. But I really can't afford to be buying mufflers to try on for sound <g> so I think I will stick with these for now. Besides the next thing I need to buy is the SCT tuner.

You should consider selling/trading mufflers. That's what I've done off and on over the past year. And generally, all it costs me is shipping. Try to follow this:

6/4/05: Bought SLP PowerFlos new ($342)
8/19/05: Bought SLP Loudmouths used ($175)
9/12/05: Sold PowerFlos (-$275)
1/16/06: Bought Magnaflows used ($220)
2/17/06: Traded Loudmouths for Bassanis used ($0 + shipping)
2/20/06: Sold Magnaflows (-$250)
8/4/06: Traded Bassanis for Magnaflows used ($0 + shipping)

Bottom line: I have spent about $210 total on mufflers (plus some shipping costs, so maybe around $320 altogether??), and I've been able to experiment with several kinds of mufflers on several different exhaust set-ups. And I actually have less invested now than when I bought my first set back in June 2005.

Don, I had you in mind when I said there was no shortage of experimentation going on with these cars exhaust systems, among other things. Best of luck with your "new" car.

That's wild. You *have* been thru some mufflers. Do you have racks available so you can change them while standing or are you on your back? After 3 times on my back in 8 days I decided to give it a break!

No rack or lift... it only takes me 20-30 minutes to do it now in my garage.

BTW, that list was just the buying/selling/trading sequence. I changed them out a few more times than that just to hear differences (whenever I had two different sets laying around). For example, in between 1/28/06 and 2/10/06, I took the Magnaflows off and put the LMs back on to see if they sounded any better once the supercharger was installed. They didn't, so I swapped them back again, and got rid of the LMs. Heck, I have a set of stock cans here now too. I may throw them on just to see how they sound compared to the Magnaflows.

Oh, and I shipped out the Bassanis today. The shipping was $19. So, my total cost for switching from the Bassanis to the Magnaflows was $19.
