Ford Racing OR Flowmaster Exhaust ... Poll
Ford Racing OR Flowmaster Exhaust ... Poll
I am trying to decide between buying the Ford Racing axle back exhaust or the Flowmaster axle back exhaust.
Can you please vote and post a response with the good, the bad, and the ugly. I also know that there are numerous other posts about exhaust systems so no need to respond stating such.
Thanks,
Bob

I just purchased a set of Pypes Violator Mufflers which to me are too loud at WOT. I have always run Flowmaster Systems on other cars and was always pleased with there sound. I have a set of Flowmaster axlebacks on order right now from Summit Racing $288 including shipping. I have had my car for 1 year and 8 months now and was hesitant to change the exhaust because the stock one sounds so good right from the factory. If I don't like the Flows I will go back to the stock set-up.
Have had flowmaster Delta threes fo over a year. Have found these to have much less resonace inside while still providing a nice deep rich tone when accelerating. I also changed the exhaust tips to 4" wide. Many people have commented about these being really muscular looking.
I can't wait to see the responses to this thread as this is my #1 dilemma as well. Over the past month, waiting on my "07", I've narrowed it down from 4-2. I deleted SLPs and Corsas. SLPs were my favorite, however, state inspections requires mufflers in PA, and Corsa- way too much $$$$ for a few pounds of steel. Remember, I'm from Steel Town.
So, I'm down to Flows and FRPPs. Props to TacoBill who was the most helpful in favor of the FRPP. FRPP(cost $330 at Bleakleys) offers more HP & TQ, looks the best with the 4" tips and clean appearance, stainless steel, light-weight, did I mention looks?, awesome sound, and very good quality. Negatives- DRONE! and maybe a little too loud.
Flows(cost $277 at Summit) offers a nice look with 4" SS tips, low cost, 5.0 sound- well not really, but they do sound good with minimal drone, and perfect volume. Negatives- not stainless steel(SS tips only), bulky- can see the black mufflers, no extra HP & TQ- nada, and problematic- quality issues.
So... Flows or FRPPs, that is the question. If not for the drone, FRPPs by a mile. BUT, there is that drone. Did I mention the drone? Please, someone convince me otherwise. I'll probably buy the Flows, no, second thought, the FRPPs... hence my dilemma. I welcome all opinions.

Ehhh...I have absolutely no drone with my FRPP's, which are the rebadged Borla Stingers. I have put 12.2k miles on my car since Nov 05 with 85% highway miles, and have nothing but good things to say. No drone, no vibrations, sound great, great quality, easy to clean. Doesn't get any better fo rme and I was very concerned with noise when buying an aftermarket axleback.
The only thing close to drone I would comment on is 5th gear at 55-60mph. But, I hardly ever travel at speeds like that, always below or above, so it's a non issue really.

I had a set of flows on mine, sounded great, until I put headers and went catless. Then at WOT it was just too loud.
When I had the stock exhuast w/flows it had all the right sounds and no drone. After doing the exhaust which included an X pipe, at idle, part throttle, cruise, it was great.... But WOT.... whew, loud.
So, if you are keeping the rest of the exhaust stock, I have a pair of axle backs for $170 shipped.

I tried the Flowmasters and went with the FRPP axle backs. I’m completely satisfied with them; they look and sound amazing. When I turn the car on and while cruising they sound perfect, not too loud and not to low. At WOT, wow, but not exaggerated loud just wow with my personal taste. I think the FRPP is not that loud because when I was installing them I turned the car on without mufflers (that is loud)! I guess that stayed with me. Anyway, when I bought the Flowmasters before these they were just too low in my opinion, I was better off with my stock mufflers. So, I sent them back and bought the FRPP. It’s been about 3 months since I bought them now and no problems so far. I would suggest you try them both. Oh, drone? Yes, there is drone, but little. Like stated above it appears at 55-60 (around there), nothing that annoys me though. I like 70-80, cruising on the freeway, pretty quiet, as if they go to sleep while you cruise.
Again try them out, you’ll loose some money on shipping but hey, you’ll be comfortable with your decision.

A lot of it is personal taste but for the $ and the look, the flowmasters in my book are top notch. I was at a car show a few weeks back with a few different types represented, FRPP, Basanni and my flows as the "known" brands and I (and my buddy who has the FRPP) thought the flows sounded better at startup and idle.
What I really like about the flows is there is no drone to speak of and at WOT they are incredible sounding. On the highway they are very livable, you hardly know they are there and that in my mind is very important as I want to be comfortable while I drive and not have to jack up the stereo just to cover the mufflers up.
I picked mine up at a local speed shop for $330cdn, Summit has the kit for $280, hard to pass that up, and the tips, I get a lot of compliments on those.

people that are saying there is no drone on these systems must be smoking something. I have owned the bassani, borla/frpp, and have a freind that has the flows. They all have drone, but at different rpms etc. Some more than others. If you want a louder nice exhaust there is going to be some drone. Bassani was awesome and loud, especially with catted xpipe, borla/frpp stingers are loud and deeper unlike the bassanis which were a loud but a little more raspy racing like. I like the deep lower tone myself, the flows on my buddys car arent loud enough. I think if you are looking for the deeper lower tone, you cant go wrong with the ford racing/borlas. Good luck either way.
I'm not smoking anything. Drone is glasspacks on a 351 windsor with ltubes @ 55mph. Not a slight pleasant hum at 70 that can easily be drowned out by the radio at even low volume and general road noise.
Flows!!
There is very very very very very very little drone with the Flows.
And the Ford Racing Borla's, Jesus, EAR HURTING DRONE!!! Glad I bought the flows. I'll be deaf by the time I'm 30 if I had the FRPP borla's.

I vote for the FRPP/Borla Stingers.
Yes, there's drone, but only at around 1800-1900 rpm's.
Try Downs Ford. I paid $369 plus shipping.
