By the way, I did have a rattle. It was the clamps that attach the muffle to the mid-pipe. Ya gotta torque those suckers down tight! Cured the rattle.

Wooohoooo....

Just put the Flowmaster axle back kit on.

Ordered from Summit Tuesday, got them today (Thursday) had them installed in about 2 hours. The air ratchet and ratchetting box end wrenches helped tremendously.

Why are they $485.00 on the Flowmaster web site, but only $275.00 from Summit?

I fired the car up with the stock mufflers removed(open pipes). I thought that would be louder.

With the flows on I was really dissapointed initally. I wanted loud!

I went on a 60 mile ride... It really does sound awesome! Went through some tunnels (on the interstate), shifted to third and hit it. Very cool sound. Cruised through some parking garages at the local mall. Set off some car alarms! Nice deep growl.

People talk about drone, I didn't notice anything.

This just adds another dimension of fun. What an amazing machine this car is.

Enjoy.

I think they sound great, I like mine. At my club meeting Sunday I told another 05 owner I had put them on my car. He was looking at just having a shop put 40 series on his. After the meeting we parked them side by side and started them up. Standing behind them both running you could not even here the stock mufflers at idle for the flows.

As good as the stock exhaust sounds the Flowmasters sound that much better. I too thought the Flowmaster exhaust would be louder, but I am glad they have very minimal drone.

Love mine as well. Drove in a 05GT with SLPs yesterday and can't deny that it sounds very good. However, so far I've found the sound of the ATs is unique. Love the low rumble and how it's still a deep sounding (loud) rumble at WOT.

How long before that nasty smell from Flowmasters burns off?
Didn't have any smell with mine. Maybe you picked up a plastic bag and it melted on your exhaust.

BTW, I love my Flows.

I did have the plastic burning smell with mine for about a week. At first I thought maybe the pipes were too close to the bumper cutouts, but I checked and the area around the cutouts were barely even warm, much less hot enough to make a burning smell.

I did not see anything else being the cause, so I figured the new exhaust just needed some time to burn the smell out, and they did. Nothing to worry about.

I just finished installing my Flowmasters today, dropped the top, and went for a cruise!

WOW... what a difference the Flows made!!! I don't hear drone, only music! WOW!!! It's hard for me to wipe off that s*** eating grin from my face...

I followed 300HPGT's advice and loosened the Hpipe connectors, that seemed to make things go a lot easier. I still had to pull the hangers though... that sucked... the passenger side hanger all the way at the rear was the biggest PITA to put back on. The only way I could see getting the bottom bolt on was with a ratcheting box wrench. My hands are still sore from putting THAT bolt back in.

Only one thing is denting my joy - I have the annoying rattle in the passenger side muffler...

Tried running at WOT a few times (darn that was fun!!!) and the rattle appeared to recede quite a bit. I'm letting the 'Stang cool off right now before I restart to see if the rattle returns.

If so, I'll try tightening the bolts some more, and see if that works. If not, should I call that number that came with the kit (Flowmaster) to get a replacement muffler? I did notice some leftover weld material in the tip - I shook out the crap before installing the passenger muffler.

Sounds like you have one of the defective 05 kits with the bad weld in the right muffler, call the co you got the mufflers from and have them send you a new one!

UPDATE ON THE FLOWMASTER RATTLE:

I called Flowmaster direct 800-544-4761 on their tech support line to report the rattling passenger muffler.

What a bunch of great guys! They answered the phone quickly, I talked to a friendly tech named "Scott" that told me he was aware of the problem and offered to ship me a replacement passenger muffler with no hassle whatsoever.

Kudos to Flowmaster - great product, great service!

Hi Sam,

I just finished installing my Flowmaster mufflers and I was not able to tighten the clamps that came with the Flowmaster enough in order to tighten them to the H pipes securely?

Do I have to have them welded as Flowmaster suggest?

Thanks, Bruce

I tightened mine with an air ratchet. They snugged up nicely. Solid and no leaks. I always thought I would have them welded up, but after my local muffler shop started crying about "it wouldn't be worth it for the money we would have to charge me". I've just left them with the clamps... maybe later, if I ever install header and hi-flow cats, I can have them take care of that at the same time. You really should try to tighten them up some more. Find a 1/2" drive ratchet... or breaker bar. Something with a lot of leverage.

How do you like the sound?

That's weird that folks are having problems with these clamps. I tightened mine down by hand with a wrench. No problems. ???

Hello Sam,

Thanks for the tightening suggestion. I was afraid the I would break the clamp if I tightened it too much, but I will try and tighten it more.

I can not give you an honest answer on the sound yet, because I have not yet driven the car on the road, because of the salt and sand on the roads. It does sound good in the driveway.

I am excited to see how the sound is on the open road, so I am hoping that in the near future I will have the chance if the weather breaks for a few days. Right now it is getting colder in Connecticut.
I received my honeycomb rear taillight panel today, so I also excited about install the panel, but unfortunately the temperature needs to be around 60 degrees.
I will post some photos of the Flowmaster mufflers and the honeycomb panel once I have them installed and aligned.

Regards, Bruce

Well Santa brought me a set of Flowmasters American Thunder. I installed them Christmas night after we did all of the family visits. Took about 2 hours I guess. I have to agree a couple of those bolts were a bite to install. The clamps were not bad, just tightened them down real real snug. The overall alignment is great. Took the car for a little drive this morning and still cannot get the smile off my face. The stock exhaust sounded great, but the Flowmasters are wonderful. No rattles just that sweet rumble. Thank you Santa aka The Mrs....

Do you have the flowmasters. I had a set of 50's on my 66 and loved the way they sounded, although they were a little much on the highway, especially with the top up. I am considering these for my 06 convertible, How bad is the drone on the 05-06?

I still swear by these! Love em on my 05 Auto.
