Flowmaster with a Xpipe?
Please no!
I personally believe it is a Law in all 50 states that all chambered mufflers must be matched up with an H or Prochamber, because as the previously mentioned X pipe increases Raspiness way past Legal regulations.
--But seriously, A friend in the local car club was running an Off Road X with Flowmasters and when he opened her up, I was LITERALLY EMBARASSED for him. -And believe me, that is really saying something considering how I can pretty much like any exahust as long as its its on a V8.

I agree, Flows with an X pipe is really raspy! Some people like that sound, but I think it sucks! That is why I switched to an O/R H-pipe and they sound much better. Still cant get rid of that freakin trumpety sound at 2500rpms though. Other than that, people tell me my car is one of the better sounding S197s they have heard. I am also running original 40 series 2 chamber Flows though.
I run a MAC o/r x pipe with flows and it sounds good. I get nothing but compliments. I will have to upload a vid of me at the auto x. You can really hear how good it sounds and there is no raspiness. The only time its raspy is when its cold. once its warmed up, it sounds good.
I have Bassani Long Tube Headers and Off Road x-pipe with 12" Vibrant resonators and the Flowmasters. I was running the GTA's before and that was THE definition of raspy and trumpets. The resonators didn't do much at all and the flows seemed to mello it out quite a bit. I think you need some type of chambered exhaust to mello out long tubes and off road x-pipe. If I could do it over again I would go with the hi-flow cats in the x-pipe to tone it down a bit. If you just want to do an x-pipe and stick with the stock headers and cats, then I think you will be happy. Everyone seems to like the shelby GT sound, and that is a FRPP x-pipe with the GTA's. Also, it seems most everyone is satisfied with their Flows, nice deep tone, so once again, I think it would be a good combo.

Here's me at the auto x. Gives you a good impression of what the car sounds like under load and decel.
