I have a 05 GT and want to make it sound like a true mustang. Is the new 05 mustang flowmaster axel back as loud as the 40series delta flow. I heard many mustangs with the 40s and it sounds awesome. What mufflers are on the axel back I know the mufflers on the axel back were specifically designed for the 2005 mustang but are they 40series. I want to know if i should get the axel back or get a custom 40series exhaust. I am also going to put a bassani x pipe w/o cats. Either way i am staying with flowmaster b/c of the sound of them on a mustang.

I personally dont really like the sound of flows with an X pipe...

But, the 2005 Mustang Flowmaster is LOUDER than the original 40 series mufflers.... the 40 series have less flow than the stock mufflers.

The new series uses American Thunder mufflers as opposed to the 40 series. Supposedly the 40 series is a decrease in HP. Stay away from those. Why do you think they made the 05 specific kit.

yea i got the same thing when I called him, he said a 10% increase in horsepower, so Im gonna say thats in the 10-15 range, and I was talking to him about the whole exhaust, he said that if you want a true flowmaster sound on the 05, go with the axleback kit and go with like Ford Racing or Hooker shorty headers, don't need to change the stock h-pipe, he says X-pipe does absolutely nothing for the car and he hates them. I'm takin his advice, I was on the phone with him for a good 25 min talkin about the exhaust set-up on this car, i even asked him about a cat back kit, he said there is no point. Ford already came out with factory pipes that match flowmasters pipes, so he said there is no point in making them, cause changing the pipes does nothing.

i just put my flowmaster axle back kit on today and i love it!!!! it was a little difficult to get the tips to line up right, they still are off just a bit, but i can live with it. i noticed that on my stock h-pipe there are two huge dents where the pipe is actually crushed from that bar that is behind the axle. im not sure what its called, but somehow that hit my h-pipe and crushed it in about a half inch. i guess i bottomed out really hard or something, but i dont remember doing that. anyways, i think that the sound is not 100% like the flowmasters on the 04 on back mustangs, but it is very close. it has a deep rumble which is what flowmaster is known. i personally would not go with anything but flowmaster because to me their sound is true muscle car. also, maybe its just me, but i seem to notice that the car may have actually lost a bit of power. i might just be paying too much attention to the sound, but when i take off in first gear it doesnt seem to give me quite the same throw me back in the seat feeling. with the factory mufflers i could take off in first gear and floor it and it would set me back in the seat and break the tires loose. now it doesnt do that, but the more and more i drove it, it seemed to have more power than before. maybe the muffler was just getting broke in. but, if anyone is debating whether or not to go with the American Thunder axleback kit, I highly recommend it!! i am very happy so far!!

For all of you with the Flowmaster axle back, any of you reset your computer? That what one of the other things that I brought up to the guys at flowmaster, told them I had a few people have a power decrease, and he said you must reset the computer by unplugging the battery for 20 min so the computer can recalibrate itself for the exhaust, thats probably why people lost power, any of you do that b4 you put the exhaust on??
