Flowmaster with Off-Road X-pipe
Maybe resonators would solve the problem.. the following is from Alternative Auto.
We've now moved on to installing a set of MAC 1 3⁄4†mid length headers and a custom 2.5†H-pipe with Hi-Flo cats and resonators built into the H-pipe. We left the rest of the pipes leading from the H-pipe back to the mufflers alone being that they're 2.5†and stainless. At the very back of the car we went with Flo-Master Delta 50’s, or what are also known as 3-chambers, and a very fitting, good looking, rolled stainless tip.
The reason we installed resonators in the exhaust is that I've decided that 05 Mustangs are going to be much louder than we've been accustomed to because of the mufflers being located all the way in the back of the car without any tail pipes to help reduce or cancel some noise
We've already listened to several 05’s that have other types of mufflers and exhaust systems and are starting to believe that a lot of these other set ups have for a lack of better words - a disgusting, poppy, frappy sound that's just plain too loud for most people.
The system we've custom built for our 2005 GT has a very unique roar with no popping at any rpm or load, it is louder then stock, but wont get attention when you're 2 miles away. Personal preference is going to come into play here and were not saying that our way is the only way, but with the mufflers being all the way at the back of the car, we feel that lots of people are going to make the mistake of putting mufflers on that we've become accustomed to on previous model year Mustangs that had tail pipes..
It must be noted though that the sound that this new and unique system produces is very different. It has a deep big block type sound at all rpms and loads.

Here is the link to alternative auto's exhaust update that was quoted above. I'm just trying to achieve a sound without headers since I'm not really concerned with the HP gains. I'm very tempted to go to my local exhaust shop today and see what they would charge to cut my cats off and weld in some pipe in their place.
This is what I decided to do with my stock H-Pipe. It will have the same features as Brenspeed's Mac stainless steel x-pipe.

O.K. this is it for a long while. I went to my local performance muffler shop and I installed high performance resonators. Not in the x-pipe but in the cat-back stock pipes before the mufflers. I have to admit, it sounds pretty good and no more tinny raspiness sound. With my Flowies, the sound is a little quiet, but I'll be looking into trying different mufflers till I find the right ones for me. So, if you guys want to get rid of the "RICER" sound, install some performance resonators. You'll be glad you did.
I think you guys don't know what "ricers" sound like. I have had enough of people equating Mustangs with X-pipes to ricers. If you think that a Mustang GT 4.6 with X-Pipes or Borlas sounds like rice, you are tone deaf or you have no clue about what a car should sound like. To each his own, but there is no way my car sounds like rice. Either turn up your Beltones or quit complaining.

Hmmm. With an off-road x pipe on my Stang sure sounded like a "RICER". Oh, BTW, the definition of a "Ricer" is a so called suped up import running on a over sized bee hive of a muffler. Oh and uh.... did anyone insult you or your car??? I sure didn't see anything. If you don't like other people posting opinions on certain issues, read it and move on, cause I don't think people need or want to hear what idiots like you have to say.

So I am an idiot now? This coming from a guy whom bought an aftermarket part that is known to sound raspy. I guess NASCAR's sound ricey because they run X-Pipes
You must be hard of hearing because there is NO WAY a V8 Mustang w/ x-pipe sounds like a ricer. Next time, before you start whining, do some research on the product you are purchasing. I have no problem with people posting opinions, but I do have a problem with people whom don't know what they are talking about posting incorrect information.

2004 M3 with SuperSprint Race was indeed very raspy. I wanted to get rid of the raspiness SO bad at first...then fell in love with it. With the SS exhaust, it was another world
I'd say your car sounds TINNEY or RASPY, but not ricer!

Im not trying to take sides here...but Max, NO OFFENSE at all to your system, its a great setup...but it has a RASPY tinny sound to it that is USUALLY characterized as a RICER sound....

I have to agree with Jason. Although raspy for my liking, I would never confuse the sound of a mustang with an offroad x-pipe with say a V6 import. I'm actually not sure I'm liking my cat delete on my stock h-pipe, it's almost too loud, so I'm gonna have be careful around the police now. I thought I heard a clip somewhere of a Bassani x-pipe with hi flows with Flowmasters, didn't seem as raspy to me, but I lost the clip. Probably gonna be the route I go, gotta tune the DB's down some, lol.
