Is there anyone out there running the Flowmaster American Thunder Axle-Backs with an Off-Road X-Pipe?? I'm having what seems to be rattling in the chambers and the sound is like a Ricer with those big bee hive mufflers. Doesn't have that patented Flowmaster sound. Anyone experiencing this problem? If it turns out to be my x-pipe, I'll have to buy a different brand of muffler and sell my Flowies.

i have flowmasters with a MAC off road Prochamber and it sounds like what you are talking about too. it only does it though after taking off under load at around 2000 rpms. it almost starts to get a musical note type sound of a trombone or something, but it only last for like a second. otherwise it sounds pretty good. i am not very satisfied with the combination of the two. i think it is because x-pipes make it higher pitched and raspy, that in combination with the chambered design of the flows, make it sound like that.

anyone else have any other ideas?? i wonder how it would sound with a set of loudmouths.

It's not the mufflers. After installing the longtubes and high-flow cats on mine, I got the same "rattle" or "raspy" sound. At the time, I was running the Bassani axlebacks. Thinking it may be the muffler design, I switched over to the Flowmasters, but still have the same issue. I absolutely HATE the exhaust tone. On mine, it sounds like you are driving an F150 with glasspacks on it. I'm looking for a solution.

Gonna try to install the stock mufflers with my off-road x-pipe. See what they sound like.

I have Flowmaster 40s and the MAC o/r Prochamber on mine and i get that sound. But you have to think of it this way. Your sitting on top of the x-pipe all your going to hear is that raspy noise which is louder then your mufflers. I'm telling you, have someone drive your car around the block and listen to it you will be pleasently suprised on how good it sounds because you will actually hear the lower rumble of the mufflers with the raspy sound. There is nothing wrong with your setup. I have had numerous comments on the sound of my car and people saying they wish they could have a car that sounded like that. Because the mufflers are placed at the rear of the car you don't hear them as much when your in the drivers seat. Its a totally different sound when your outside the car and someone is driving by you. If you just rev it you won't hear the full sound of the car untill the car is moving. Just give it a try.

did that, and people said it sounded like a rice rocket! that was the last straw for me. maybe the 40 series are different than the american thunders? there is definitely too much tinny sound with this setup.

y22kc, I'm using UPR Products' x over pipe. Best price I found for a catless X up here in Canada. Well before taxes, shipping, customs..... lol.

flyersfaniv, I'd really like to see that clip of yours if you could. I'd like to compare sounds.

All X-pipes are going to sound raspy, especially in off road form. It's raspy only around 2500-2800 rpms under partial throttle. Under WOT, my car sounds awesome. My friends have commented how good it sounds outside the car while on it.

Well, took the Flowies off and now running stock with off road x. Sounds not too bad, but it's too quiet for my liking. I have no choice but to sell the Flowmasters and buy a different brand name. I need to hear different mufflers on a catless x pipe.

I've been thinking about buying Mustang Tuning's x-pipe since it's the cheapest I found. I just don't know if different brand x-pipes actually make a difference the type of sound they produce.

LOL...I put my Flowmasters back on. Couldn't stand the stock mufflers with the x pipe. Now I'm thinking of puting my stock cats back on and installing custom straight pipes with chrome tips. Tubing will be mandrell bent and should sound like the Loudmouths but cheaper in price. All this hassle just to make my exhaust louder and my wife's nagging even louder.

How can buying and flipflopping between flowmasters/stock mufflers, x-pipe/stock cats, and having a custom straight-pipe, be cheaper than LMs?

I've tried Off road X with stock mufflers, SLP Loudmouths and Flowmaster American Thunder. No matter what setup I ran it was always raspy. Now I've got and off road H pipe with Flowmaster American Thunder and it sounds Awesome. No raspyness, just loud deep rumble.

Where did you get the offroad h-pipe or did you just cut out the cats on the stock h-pipe?
