First Time at the Track for the Roushcharger - So So Results?
First Time at the Track for the Roushcharger - So So Results?
Well I finally made it to the track thanks to Steve (Galaxie who's already posted) and I've a couple of comments.
First, this 1/4 mile thing takes practice, doesn't it. I didn't realize what an art it was. My sincere kudos to Don W and the others who make the 1/4 mile sound so easy - and do it so well. Secondly, my comments about the Roushcharger Automatic in my previous posts (about it being a supercharger to enhance streetability, not blaze down the 1/4 mile) were absolutely correct. It certainly didn't blaze down the track.....but the driver (and the weather to an extent) was somewhat responsible for that.
So aside from being the newest of the newbs at the motorsports park that day, here's the best 3 out of 5 runs. Two of them I won't even bother with, particularly the one where the SRT Neon got his green light and took off while I sat there apparently waiting for the "special" staging lights in my lane. How flipping embarassing
I'm fairly certain that I saw A.S.S. on timing board rather than my speed for that run. Oh well.
Anyways, here's the best 3, which were the last 3 out of 5 by the way:
13.479 @ 106 mph (no 60' time recorded for some reason)
13.367 @ 107.56 (again, no 60' time recorded)
13.223 @ 104.69 (60' was 2.041)
So it looks like the old Roushcharger has some work to do. Or rather, the driver does. It was getting really busy (and hotter) by 1PM when Galaxie and I quit for the day. The only promising thing about these numbers were that they were going down on each run with what little experience I was gaining. The track was very, very sticky and the last two of the 3 runs were completed with an approx. 2000 rpm brake torque on the 2nd and a little bit more on the third. Me thinks I'll have to go a little higher next time.
That's it for now, and after all was said and done it was a fun day. Mark

Anyway, the first time out is always a learning experience (hell, everytime out is a learning experience). Once you get a routine from more practice, and the weather is better, the numbers will drop for you.
Mark,
At least your reaction time improved over the day ...
Like I said in galaxie's post... the weather was getting worse, but the times were getting better
You'll get better...and I'm glad I was there to see you run.
Good time.
Next time.... I'll giver

Mark,
I'm sure you'll be able to hit 12's in that car, its just a matter of not hitting the track when its that hot, and that humid. I am sure you're able to launch that car even harder.
We'll go again this summer

Mark, what were your 1/8 times/mph?
As for launching higher with the auto, don't think you'll be able to. I start to break loose around 2k (stock brakes). I'd say with a new converter you'd be well into the 12's.

I have to say that I have never lined up at a track before and I believe I am guaranteed to have a very similiar scenario unfortunately, but it gave me a bit of a laugh when reading your post and knowing that I will not be the only one to look like a greenhorn!
Greatly appreciate the post!

8.755 @ 82.95 mph
8.698 @ 84.09 mph
8.569 @ 84.31 mph
And the new converter thing....I was afraid someone would say that. But I think you're right.
And Mikem.....my thoughts also. I had that "WTF" look for most of the day, just like the smilie. But that's o.k., means I got a bit of work to do.
