Me and SP_F1-51 went to San Antonio Raceway last night with a local Mustang club.
Him: FRPP axle backs: 13.69 ET
Me: K&N CAI, 93 octane tune, FRPP 4.10: 14.51 ET
Ouch. Revving to 4k and dropping it didn't seem to work with the stock tires paired with 4.10's...
It was fun as heck though! They were using a pro tree setup, so *as soon as* both cars were staged (which took us a few tries ), it blinked yellow then green REALLY fast. As soon as I staged, I looked down at my tach and started revving, then I looked up and the light was already green. My RT was 1.1...:P
One thing I don't understand about our timeslips is that although he beat me by near a second, our trap speed was less than .5 mph apart. His was 102 and mine was 101.5. Shouldn't his be higher or mine lower to yield that big a difference in ET?

I do 13.5 @ 105 with stock tires, 93 tune and K&N air charger.
I think on pro tree, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, that when green shows the time is running, but I'm not sure. Never raced pro tree.
Anyway I have the stock 3.55s with stock tires and I hook up best at 3000. My guess is you were spinning really bad. With the 4.10s you should probably back down to about 2800. If you spin, back down, if you bog, then RPM up.

ran same time as you Dustin, first time ever at the track bone stock, 13.5 @ 102, not too bad. But wanting to see what times I get now with the K&N, 93 tune, T/B Spacer, and underdrive pulleys, of course my B&M shifter will probably bring my time down a little bit.

The reason your trap speed was so close is because you probably had a horrible 60' time in comparison to his, but after your started to hook up, your gearing took over and you accelerated just as fast as he did.
And im pretty sure there are no dragstrips out there that start the ET time when the light turns green, only the reaction time. The ET time doesnt start until you (un)break the beam with your car(0-13 inches of roll out).

Yeah, I definitely need practice. Thanks for the tips, guys.
Aimee wants to go to a test and tune night on Weds. when it will probably be less crowded and we can make multiple runs.

FYI I get my best times if I let the car sit for at least 45 minutes off with the hood open with ice bags in the throttle body, intake, and fuel rails. The car runs way better cold.

Ha, I think heatsoak is the least of my worries considering I ran a 15.41 with all my mods while my friend ran 13.69 basically stock...

Either way, it was a heck of a lot of fun!
We need to go back soon. :drive:

I think you mean 14.51.

I'd be down for a Weds night test and tune. Leave Austin after work at 7pm, get there at 8pm, then we got 3 hours to make runs, hopefully it won't be crowded, leave at 11pm, get home by 12am.

With street tires and any gearing (stock or 4.10's) you shouldnt rev up and dump the clutch. The ultimate goal is to feather the clutch to prevent wheel spin, but also keep the engine from bogging. leaving the line around 2500rpm but feathering the clutch has always worked best for me in various cars. Dumping the clutch is going to result in blowing teh tires off as you found.
I think the key for anything is just practice.

Yes. I think I'm dyslexic or something. Notice I got your name backwards also...

I'd be down for a Wed. night some time, but we would have to plan it at least the day before, since I normally don't drive my car to work in the middle of the week.

The best practice is getting a G-Tech and practicing with that. You can practice full 1/4's or just work on your launches by using the 0-60 part of the G-Tech. Sometimes if I am making a 1/4 mile G-Tech run and my 0-60 flashes at 5.1 sec, I let out, since I know my 1/4 will not be as good as I am shooting for. (I aim for sub 5 sec 0-60's) Nevertheless, the G-Tech practice has deffinately made me a better driver and I have been using it to test drive and tune cars I work on for over 6 years now. When you learn how to get your times down, you will learn the characteristics of your car. I Just went out and G-Teched a few times last night (a REALLY COLD COLD FRONT CAME THROUGH) with my buddy in the car ran two 13.50 passes with a passenger. I have done much better though. Last week one night it was in the high 70's and I made a 13.7 pass, so It's nice to see how much better it runs in the cold weather.
My first time at SAR, I ran 14.1 about 3 times. Then I tried a different approach and ran 13.7. By feathering off the line like Scothew mentioned. On my good passes at SAR, I smelled my clutch a little, so I was obviousely using alot of cltch and not just "dumping" it, but it made for good runs. I plan on going back to SAR soon when it gets colder and running some low 13's on my stock car. It will be a good challenge.
