First oil change questions.

First oil change questions.
Hi guys. I have some questions reguarding oil changes:
1. I just hit 1500 miles. I have heard (but do not know) that the factory oil has additives that help break in. Is this true? If so should I wait to 3000 to change it so it breaks in as Ford planned it to?
2. When is a good time to switch to synthetic? I'm thinking now would not be good since the engine is so new. Any thoughts?

1. You don't have to wait.
2. Anytime you want.
I don't bother with full synthetic.
I just use Motorcraft because I never exceed about 2k. (Less usually)
It has been 4 months now and I only drove 1000mi.

Unless you are planning on extending out your drain interval, or just have a lot of extra $$ to burn, I would stick with the Motorcraft Semi-Syn. It is a great oil, and will serve you well at the 5K mile oil change interval. I'm running Pennzoil Platinum Syn, but I plan on changing it out at either 7,500 or 10,000...I'm not sure which yet.

I hate to "burst" the bubble but the engine has Motorcraft 5/20 Semi-synthetic blend in it from the very first start up.
Nothing special, no special additives, etc.
Change it at will, I personally would wait untill at least 3000 miles before going to Mobil one full synthetic, but that is IMO.

Just bought mine Saturday...actually haven't signed all the papers yet, so it won't be "official" until tomorrow.
I plan to change it at 1000 miles...staying with the M/C semi-synthetic until at least 10k miles (just my personal preference). After that I may stay with it or go to Mobil 1 full-synthetic.
Mine's the coupe...the vert is my wife's 06.

Ok I've been at this oil change business far longer then I care to admit but with the 07 I changed at 250 miles with Mobil 1. I now just turned 1600 miles (almost 4 months now so thats 400 per month, yikes piling up the miles LOL) and I'm throughly happy with the timing of my change and the oil so far. I've used Mobil 1 for more then 25 years and its the best in my books.

I've been using regular oil for 40 years, and have never had any type of engine failure, oil burning, excessive consumption, or any negative oil-related symptom at all. BTW, I tend to keep cars for a long time (usually 100,000+ miles).
I always use a brand name oil, changed every 4000-5000 miles for daily drivers (about once a year for cars that are barely driven).
Whether you use synthetic or regular, whether you change your oil at 1500, 3000 or 5000 (maybe even 7500, depending on the type of driving done), I'd be willing to bet that for most normal usage, in the 100,000 miles you may own your car, you won't see much difference.
In over a million miles of driving, it seems my engines always had enough protection. If you feel better about using synthetic and changing every 1000 miles (or even 3000) go for it. But, at the risk of being flamed, to me, that's overkill - it's done for the "feeling".
Just my two cents.
[EDIT: I do my first change within the first 1000 miles.]

First oil change should be soon, after you've 'driven it like you stole it' to break it in properly. I changed my oil at 800kms on the odo and chunks of metal came out.
Use Motocraft oil or an equivalent (dino oil) until about 6000-10000 miles, then switch to synthetic.
I just switched to Motul synthetic and I was amazed at the perceptible differences - fuel economy, sound and smoothness of the engine. I thought I was halluscinating but my bf confirmed he felt the same way.

On my '05 GT (i have an '07 GT/CS now) i used dino oil for the first 5000mi. Then i changed to synthetic and the next morning i had a cold start knock for about 30sec and then it would go away. It was still doing that when i traded it in. Maybe it was a coincidence, but i'm staying with Motorcraft.

So I'm bringing this one back from the dead.. I'm a little bit under 1000 miles and there are a bunch of different answers here.
So when is a good time to change your oil the first time?? I'm thinking of going with 3000 for the first change.

A little twist on the oil change theme. I picked up my GT/SC in the middle of November. I drove it for about 275 miles before parking it in the garage for the Winter. Do you think I need to change the oil or is it OK to leave it be?
