From what I understand, the owners manual say's your first oil change should be at 5k miles. I wouldn't sweat changing it earlier except my last car had a special "break in" oil that required no less than 3k miles prior to first change. The dealership refused to change it for me, and I was paying cash! The tech told me I could change it but it would possible cause my engine to leak or burn oil in the future.

I like to change my oil frequently because of my stop and go almost entirely city driving, hard on the engine and oil.

Does ford use "break in" oil or can you change it whenever you want?

If you notice the 5k interval is for "normal" .... under "extreme" it's 3k. Which is what most of us actually drive in anyway.

I sure wish I knew what that "special" oil was! Must have LOTS of detergents in it to suspend all the particles a new engine makes. I'd MUCH rather use regular oil and change it at the 500 mile mark and again at the 3k mark. Of course, at the 3k mark, it's getting AMSOIL.

Pretty much a personal judgement call at this point. I think most of us agree we wouldn't change it TOO soon, just in case.

I changed to Mobil1 0-20 at 2500.

Me, I changed my oil at 1k, then will do it again at 3. 5k is too long for the oil ford uses IMO, WAY too long.
