Took the car today to have a baseline numbers done. I was very disappointed on the results. There have been absolutely no mods done thus far on my GT with an Auto tranny.

It was done on a Mustang Dyno which I know is lower than a DynoJet but the best we got was 214hp and 229tq.

Now it was run in 3rd which I think was prolly a mistake. Shouldn't it be run in 4th?

The A/F ratio avg was 11.7 which I know was rich. We pulled the HC trap and the hp/tq numbers went down with the A/F going up to 12.0.

Any suggestions? Should I go to another shop?

Steve - are those numbers actual or SAE adjusted?

3rd was a big mistake! Go somewhere else who knows enough that this is a 5 Speed Automatic and the 1:1 Ratio is 4th gear, not 3rd.

They were SAE adjusted. I thought the test should have been done in 4th but since this is my first time doing anything like this I trusted the "expert" that I assumed knew what he was doing.

He is a SCT dealer from SCT's website and he says he went to the SCT's Mustang conference in April to learn all the little tricks of the car.

I think I wasted $80.

I don't have an auto, but I am curious how you can tell the auto to stay in 4th gear on these cars. Aren't dynos run all the way through the RPM range?

Turn off fifth gear. Steve you paid for nothing. Almost the same results with my first tuner as he knew nothing about the 05 but did put it in fourth gear. I learned to ask first if they had any experience with the 05. I resent paying for their training and feel there should be some form of certification for DYNO TUNERS.

Well I don't feel so bad. I also wasted $80 at a local SCT dealer that was clueless about the 05 automatic Mustang. He too ran the car in 3rd gear - big mistake. Should be 4th gear with O.D. off.

My baseline was 252 RWHP - SAE corrected.

All dyno pulls since have been performed at DiabloSport on a Superflow load bearing dyno.

There seems to be a few shops out there that say they know all about the new GT , however they just want to use yours for training themselves. I had the same problem, I had a shop install the Mac cai kit and the predator tune, and a dyno tune, however after spending over 450.00 dollars I realized he didn't know what he was doing, the car ran lean with the cel light on. I had to finally get a custom tune from DPT, for 75.00 the car now runs great. The first guy said just drive it and the light should turn off. He didn't have a clue what to do, and this is a shop that has been in business for 50 years and build race engines.

Finally some confirmation! I had the same thought, because the shop I went to ran my dyno sessions in 3rd gear, and I got what I thought were low numbers. It's pretty apparent that 5 speed automatics are a new animal for a lot of shops. I'll be shopping around for a new one.

Steve, sorry you didn't get a quality session for what you paid, but know that you aren't alone. If I find out how these things are supposed to be properly run on the dyno, I'll get it to you.

These were my stock dyno numbers (I haven't had a dyno with the CAI+Pred tune). It was done by JBA Racing here in San Diego:

257.1 rwhp @ 5690 rpm
274 ft/lb tq @ 4246 rpm
Temp was 60F. A/F ratio stayed between 11.4 - 11.8 from 4000-5700rpm.

I told the guy it was a 5 sp auto and that's when he said to test in 3rd. I just about dropped over when it only ran up to 214.

Maybe I should go back and make him run it again in 4th since he messed up the first time.

I definitely should go to someone else once we start the tuning process because I don't think I would be able to get the full potential out of the car due to his lack of knowledge even if he did go to SCT classes 2 months ago.

My first dyno when stock was 269.9 rwhp and 286.9 torque. Done at Coastal Dyno in Tampa. Its a stick, not an auto though, and had about 8k miles on it at dyno - so it was well broken in.

How about people start posting names of shops that are screwing up to warn the rest of us.

Hi guys,

This is Starr Steve's wife. I will make sure he post the name of the place. We called my brother who lives in Westminster Maryland about some of his freinds. He was a Stock car racer for about ten years, and knows all kinds of people. So as soon as we get a good name we will post. I just wish you could have seen Steve this weekend. He was so upset. I told him the numbers sounded wrong. But he was really worried about the baby. Until we see the new numbers I am sure the both of us will worry. We just love this car.

What is the name and location of this shop? We do not want to fall in the same trap!! You are 100% right about the training.
