Yep, good catch. Looks like MM&FF made a typo and I just copied it right along.
Thanks
I think FRPP is Borla Stingers, Ford just rebadges them. Very disappointing considering some of the claims out there. Stock mufflers made more peak HP than no mufflers? Flowmaster beat Magnaflow. Never would have guessed. I'm cannot wait for part II.
I did not recieve my copy yet, I'm guessing this is not a stock car? I kinda figured the loudmouths would be lower, but with all the talk of the "chambered mufflers loosing power, and for the flows to come in over the magnaflows, glad someone finally tested. I finally decided to go with the bassanis when my car gets here, but since they all are within a few ponies go with the sound you like, Can't wait to see what they get out of the xpipes.
I'm kinda new to this stuff and admittedly have alot to learn but rather than looking at the relatively minor gains in peak HP from some systems doesn't the larger loss in average HP from all the systems bother anyone? I was kinda of surprised to see the declines in average vs. the increase in peak. Thoughts?
I would take higher average over higher peak HP, so I would probably get so chrome tips from MRT and call it a day. I still need to read article, but based on what I'm reading, A lot of these companies lied big time. Magnaflow gurantees their products make power over stock. It sounds like they need to put more money into R & D and less into adding new members to Team Mangaflow.

ok I walked on over to B&N on lunch and picked up the MM&FF issue. While there I also found and picked up Aug '05 issue of Automobile which does a take on Mustang, Charger and GTO head-to-head and Mike Mueller's The Complete Mustang book '64 1/2 thru '05
Ok back to MM&FF, pg 96, article is only Part 1. They compare STOCK, UN-MUFFLED, BASSANI R BX-4605-5R, FORD RACING M-5230-5GT, FLOWMASTER, MAGNAFLOW, and JBA. Each one has a chart RPM/TORQUE/POWER with RPMs ranging from 2000 to 6200 in 100 RPM increments. Obviously that is a lot of charts to type so are there any particular benchmarks you guys would be interested in seeing listed? Below are the summaries of each one:
STOCK:
Muffler weight: 16lbs each
Idle noise: 68 dBA
Cruise noise @ 2000 rpm: 96 dBA
Column Max: 313.8 ft-lb, 289.8 hp
Column Avg: 282.5 ft-lb, 231.7 hp
UN-MUFFLED:
Muffler weight: 0 lbs
Idle noise: 73 dBA
Cruise noise @ 2000 rpm: 99 dBA
Column Max: 311.2 ft-lb, 290.0 hp
Column Avg: 284.9 ft-lb, 227.2 hp
BASSANI R BX-4605-5R:
Muffler weight: 10 lbs each
Idle noise: 71 dBA
Cruise noise @ 2000 rpm: 98 dBA
Column Max: 315.2 ft-lb, 292.8 hp
Column Avg: 287.5 ft-lb, 226.7 hp
FORD RACING M-5230-5GT:
Muffler weight: 7.5 lbs each
Idle noise: 71 dBA
Cruise noise @ 2000 rpm: 96 dBA
Column Max: 314.9 ft-lb, 292.7 hp
Column Avg: 286.4 ft-lb, 223.5 hp
FLOWMASTER:
Muffler weight: 16 lbs each
Idle noise: 72 dBA
Cruise noise @ 2000 rpm: 97 dBA
Column Max: 314.5 ft-lb, 292.0 hp
Column Avg: 287.8 ft-lb, 225.0 hp
JBA:
Muffler weight: 12 lbs each
Idle noise: 71 dBA
Cruise noise @ 2000 rpm: 98 dBA
Column Max: 313.0 ft-lb, 289.5 hp
Column Avg: 276.7 ft-lb, 218.6 hp
QUOTE FROM ARTICLE:
"The JBA mufflers came into the test with the lowest price tag, while the Bassani and Ford Racing products made the most power. If you dig the classic 5.0 growl, as does your author, then you should check out the Flowmaster stuff. The tone is reminiscent of the 5.0 days of yesteryear."
"Tune in next issue, as we will evaluate X-pip offerings for the '05 Mustang GT."
Hope this info was usefull for you guys.
Mike
EDIT: looks like Zach wrote up the highlights of the RPM chart while I was writing this. Thanks Zach!

:notnice:
I wonder if they posted power & torque curves. If the peak is level or close to stock, but you see an exhaust flow gain down low and through-out the RPM range, you would see a performance improvment. What I have read in several magazines is that Ford really did their homework with the Mustang exhaust system, and unless you really get into headers, X-pipe and seroius mods, there might not be too much to gain, other than a few dB with a muffler swap.
I have to point out that their muffler weights are full of bull. Stock weighs more than 16 lbs, and the weight difference between stock and Bassani is only 2.5 lbs each.
2-4 HP means nothing. Their runs could not have been identical unless they where in a climate controlled room, and the engine was at the exact same temp for each run.

There are a lot of good articles about bolt ons for the '05 in this months MM&FF. In an exhaust comparison, they found that the Bassani and Ford Racing Mufflers had the biggest gains, with Flowmaster being close behind. Check it out, work done at Anderson Motorsport.

I wonder why they did not test the Corsa. They claim 13 HP I think.

Anyone who thinks they will get any measurable HP from axle-backs is dreaming, IMO.
Hum, well after adding a C&L CAI and SCT2 tune, I'm well pleased with my stock muffler/exhaust system.
As for bang for the buck, the only thing I might consider down the road now is adding a X-pipe since reading all this information.
Any suggestions for which X-pipe to purchase?
These axle back and cat back systems can hit the wallet pretty hard - now I'm seriously questioning the value of these mods - which I had been considering.
