Ive noticed a several times when ive rolled down my window, a ticking noise coming from the engine every 3 second or so, it doesnt do it all the time but its getting quite anoying now. Ill be calling the dealer where I bought the car tomorrow. One question I have tho is do you think putting a cat back exhaust on the car will void my warranty? I really hope this isnt a start of a hugh problem, I really love the car(GT by the way) if anyone has any info or help it would be much appriciated.....

Does the tick frequency increase when you give it a little gas? Are you sure it is not the fuel pump relay kicking on?

3 seconds is too short for this usually, but could it be the AC kicking out and in? To see, just open the hood, let it run and watch the AC clutch.

just went out and started it up seems like right now its only doing it every min or so, and i could only get it to do it with the defroster on...next time i hear it doing it every 3 secs ill try turning off the defroster and see if thats whats causing the noise and also check the ac clutch to see if its moving...the best way to describe the noise is almost like a quick burst of air coming out of a air compressor with a click to it.....

At least it doesn't sound like a valve train noise. I hope the dealer can find it. I hate it when the ticket comes back with "could not duplicate noise".

It really does sound like the a/c compressor clutch. The a/c does cycle when you are using defrost. Have it checked but I think its normal.

If it is cycling too much, that can indicate a problem with the AC system. Any AC specialist can check it out, but Ford will have to do it under warranty.
