Engine Swap

If I were to throw a 4v motor in my '06 GT what else would I need aside from the motor, harness and computer?

The 302 in the 2011 GT sounds awesome but the looks and compliments I get, in my almost paid off, 2006 make me reluctant to buy a new car. Since the new car is just new sheet metal... the new 302 should fit in my engine bay correct? Aside from the new computer and harness... what else would I need for a new 4V motor? I'm not so much interested in the 2011 302 as any built 4v 302 (definately forged and probably stroked).

No offense, but why would you even go through all that? The computer by itself is EXPENSIVE, plus all the wiring harnesses, mounts, and other items, the price you'll pay will shock you! You may also need a different transmission, or at least new flywheel so it fits up to the current transmission. We don't yet know what trans they will use for the new 5.0.

Why don't you just keep the current motor, and do a full stroker kit, heads and cams (with other items). You'll have well over 400 hp to the tires with this type of setup. Just read the August issue of MM & FF. Jim III from JDM has his car in the issue. They showed what cams could do to a car, and his pushed 401 rwhp (granted, it also has his own ported/polished heads, and a stroker kit among a few other mods) but it shows what the 3V can do n/a, when done right. That is the way I will go, stroker kit heads and cams in a few years.

Jeff is right. Ill bet a new 302 itself in complete form will cost $20k from Ford.. Thats not including the computer, harness, labor, trans issues.. ete etc. After it is all said and done you could almost buy a new 2010 GT with the money spent on the conversion and your car will then be worth nothing. No one will want it. No dealer would touch it on a trade.

I'm not talking about buying a new motor from the dealer... just a built 302 or larger from a reputable motor builder with 4v heads and associated increased flow. I guess I will just have to wait and see what the new car looks like and make my plans then... I'm fearing what Ford is going to show us based on the 'chops I have seen so far.

I want to do the same thing. I just want supercharging to be the last I do, if at all. I want to be in the 400rwhp range and the engine appear to be stock.

are you talking about a pushrod 302? If so, th emotor itself may not be that expensive but most of the sensors on a 4.6 are not on a pushrod 302 so your talking about some major electrical work. Besides.. afterwords your car won't pass emissions (most likely) so your faced with a whole nother issue..

Jeff, do you know if Jim III has posted a dyno sheet of his setup? It's sounds good, but I'd like to see the torque curve too. I'm a little underwhelmed with the old Roush blower I bought and honestly think I liked the car better NA. My cruise stopped working, it does a wierd hickup on a fast 2-3 shift, pops when lifting off the gas at high rpm, etc. If I could get roughly the same power without all the trade offs I'd consider going the stroker route.

No the new 302 that is coming in the 2011 car... not that specific motor... just a larger displacement motor like you can buy from MMR.

Well Glenn........... I agree. Where did you get that link. Build a solid short block and put a 250-300 shot of nitrous or a supercharger on it for a total of about 6-10K. Don't make it harder than it needs to be.

Hey dude, ask and you shall receive ! I went onto MM&FF's website and found the article on Jim's car! Low and behold, the dyno sheet was sitting there. So I saved it and posted it below! Check out the torque curve. Very linear and relatively flat from 4,000 to 5,500 rpms. I bet that car just halls A$$, LOL!! What do you think? I like this setup ALOT!!! I bet that car sounds downright SICK!!!

Sweet! I went back and read the article too. Could be a good project for over the winter.
