A question for those who have the 4.6 . . . How noisy is your engine, especially under moderate acceleration? Mine seems to have a noticable ticking noise. Anyone else experienced this?

Is the A/C or heater turned on?

That is the only ticking noise I have.

Both are off - it seems to match the rpm's.

Ticking isn't good, and it's not normal. I'd get it checked out. How fast is the ticking?

2 bit says it's your fuel injectors, they "click" while they operate. At first I thought I had some valve/cam follower noise but after pointing it out at the dealer I learned its the injectors.

make sure you're not running low grade fuel.... I noticed that when I lived in Colorado, even the 87 octane sometimes pingged during the winter months when they used a heavy mix of ethonol...

I was worried about the noise as well when I got my car. Ends up it is just the injectors.

does the injector noise mainly occur at low to moderate accelleration at lower RPM? Can only hear it with the radio off/windows shut?

Probably injectors, the only ticking I hear is my hear beating and yeah, that usually increases with RPM's too.

Hey Stangster,
Can you give us a little more info. I assume you can hear this ticking while inside the car and driving? If you raise the hood and listen to the engine can you get a better idea where it is coming from? Overhead cam engines are typically noisier but I don't think you should be able to hear it inside the car while driving. Also, have it checked to see it you might have an exhaust leak somewhere. It would keep pace with the engine rpm and you would hear it from inside the car. Just a thought.

I can hear the noise inside the car while driving. At first I thought it might be the AC, but it does it without AC on. Have tried to isolate in the engine compartment, but I'm a little hard of hearing and so it's hard to pin down.

It is there when I first start the car and the engine is cold. It is there at idle even when warmed up, and when I accelerate. The noise is definately related to rpm's. In the old days I would have said it sounds like noisey lifters. My wife and I took a trip from AR to NY this past week, and the noise seems louder. Guess it's time to take it to the dealer (which I hate to do).

I should also add - I changed the oil and filter at 1000 miles with OEM per the TSB regarding engine noise and it made no difference.

I have the same noise, but it seems to mainly come from the passenger side of the motor.
