DYNOing an Auto troubles
#1
I took my auto GT to have it dyno'd on Saturday and we had difficulty getting an true reading on it. I turned TCS and O/D off. We would start in first and manual shift it through the gears until we were in D. Once in drive we would getting running good from 3 to 4, but we would then floor it at 4000 rpms. Everytime though you could feel the converter lock up and the power just wasn't there. My first run put down 265 and 279, but that was with a spike at 3000 due to the converter locking up. After that the HP was in the low 250's and the torque was around 270 all of them with spikes at 3000 rpm. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to run an auto on the dyno? I know some shops have the ability to keep the car in 4th and this might decrease the chance on converter lockup, but without that is there a way to get a good clean run? I only have a K&N air filter (not CAI) and borla axle-backs. My graph was pretty jagged all the way through and not smooth at all.
Thanks for any help or advice.

I would like some info on this also because I've had mine to 2 different dyno shops and the car isn't doing crap. Just like you said jagged all over the place on both Mustang and DynoJet dynos.
Most we could get was 266hp and 278tq after my mods listed.

There is an electronic way to force the car to run in 4th and no other gear. You may want to try that out with a good tuner.

Yep, we load a special tune in my car when it's on the dyno... (SCT X-Cal2) using the SCT Extreme Tune you could build one... have the car shift to 4th very early and then set it so the convertor never locks up... You set the converter to lock up at like at a high MPH...

What is you don't have a tuner? Is there a way to get a good run in without a tuner?
