The bulk of the work installating the Dynatech LT headers is done. Right off the bat, I want to thank my friend Ed (msgt46270) for all of his help today. I couldn't have done it without him!! He saved my azz!! Thanks, Ed.

So, here are my thoughts after a long day in the garage. The removal of the stock exhaust manifolds was a royal PITA. Primarily due to the hard-to-reach studs. We tried to avoid removing the motor mounts, but couldn't (had to remove the right one). And getting it back in proved to be a major headache.

The Dynatechs are awesome. The fit and finish is excellent. The left header slipped right up in without any problem. The right side took a little coaxing to get past the bellhousing and trans fluid lines, but it wasn't too bad. They look sweet in there!! These headers are worth every penny so far. I can't imagine them not being excellent in the performance department, too.

Right now, I have not yet installed the cats or X-pipe. If the weather cooperates (it was raining here most of the day), I want to try to get a short video tomorrow afternoon of a WOT romp with open headers...

I didn't do too well taking pics along the way, but I have posted a few below. Ed has some on his camera too. He can add them to this thread if he wants.

And here is a short video of the first startup in the garage after we finished (open headers). It was hellaciously loud in person!!!

God that is going to be a beast!! Great looking car man.

Why did you go with the dynatech headers over the jba headers, and also where in San Diego are you located? I would love to hear this beast

Great car man

Looks great Don. Thanks for the pics. How far off the ground did you have to get the car in order to get them in there?

Thanks. After a sour experience I had with JBA a few months ago, I wasn't interested in giving them anymore of my money. And after reading and reading, these just looked like the best stainless steel 1-3/4" LTs+catted X-pipe combo for me. I just really liked the the whole package.

I'm in the Rancho Bernardo area. You can catch me at the RaceLegal drags at the Q on many Fridays... including this week, 1/6/06!!

I just used four jackstands... it was just high enough to slide under so my chest would clear. A little more room would have been nice, but for the most part, this was enough.

George... I agree with you about the low end torque while still NA. And yes, I will definitely provide some feedback after my trip to the track. After that, I want to see how it reacts after the blower goes on, and then start looking at what suspension mods will be needed.

Tony, that video soooooo understates how it sounded last night! Just at idle, it was deafening. So awesome.

I'm getting ready to button up a couple loose ends, and then go for a road test.

Looking/sounding good man I cant wait to hear them with the LM's.

When is your KB going on and what was the price tag on that?

Also isnt the LM 2.5"...im guessing there is going to be an adapter to go from 3 to 2.5, but wouldnt that negate going with 3".

I am trying to decide 3 or 2.5....I want a blower one day but it could be a verry long time before that would go on.

This Dynatech system is 2.5" and it mates right up with the stock over axle pipes (right behind the stock H). The KB kit lists for $5600, but I paid less than that. That's all I can say.

A little while ago, we went out to a clandestine location and grabbed some video of a couple WOT romp with open headers. These were grabbed with my little digital still camera. I have better ones on my videocam, but I'm not yet sure how to get them onto my computer (it's a new camera).

Anyway, for now, these give you some vague idea of how sick this thing sounds. Pay attention to how loud it is even when it is 600 to 800 feet away. Also, you can hear car alarms going off (it even set them off in my neighborhood at idle... LOL). My wife was the stunt driver on both of these. If I can get the cats/X-pipe installed before dark, we might try to get some video of how that sounds later.

Just as George noted, I did notice a loss of low end torque. But that was expected. The car used to shift harder and break the tires loose on the 1-2 shift, and chirp 3rd. These 1-3/4" tubes will be most effective once the blower goes on.

I thought when the headders were 1 3/4 it was for a 3" system and the 1 5/8 was the 2.5. I am still learning all this stuff

That thing sounds so good!

with a street car, a bigger exhaust isnt always necessary. a smaller primary will promote exhaust velocity and not kill torque (as blazing saddles mentioned)

2 1/2 in exhaust is plenty for a daily driven street car, or even a "semi" race car

I want to go to the track every now n then for fun. My long term goal is maybe 5-600 (after the internals are beefed up) RWHP for a daily driver. So can I go 1 5/8 with a 2.5" system?

Well, I got everything all buttoned up and tight. I didn't have to do any cutting on the over-axle pipe, but I did need to loosen the axleback hangers for enough slack to get the clamps in. It took a bit of twisting and persuasion to get everything lined up and connected from the headers back. The volume level went down from the open header sound (duh), but it still sounds dam loud. Unfortunately, it's raining here again today, so I really couldn't road test much or get another video. I went for a drive, but without traction... :bang:
