what are some driveshaft options in addition to the Powerhouse aluminum and BMR carbon fiber?

 

Other than those, all that I know of is the Ranger drive shaft mod described on Modular Fords. I don't know about you, but I'm hoping that rumors of a Ford Racing driveshaft come true.

That one is a 3" 23 lb steel shaft.

 

I've been happy with the Powerhouse aluminum driveshaft I've had for a few months now. I know it's pretty expensive, but I think they are the only outfit that actually has aluminum shafts in stock. I tried to get one from JPC, but they gave me the runaround for over a month before I figured out that they did not actually have the shaft for my auto. In fact, you can see this in the latest MM&FF where they rigged up a couple of cars. JPC said they still had "some problems" with their auto driveshaft. In fact, it wasn't even aluminum but steel. And this is about six months after I was trying to deal with them.

Powerhouse was good to deal with. No muss, no fuss, the shaft arrived in about 5 days and dropped in with no problems. I haven't had the car on a dyno, but I am sure the weight loss was helpful.

Does that mean they have the aluminum shafts, or that they will be available? The one they show on their website, I think, is probably chrome-moly steel.

Coast Has their new 4in aluminum shaft avail. I am running it now and have been very impressed!.. no clearance issues and the car revves up very quickly. I believe Tillman sells them.. The driveshaft shop ones are also very nice!

i read there were issues with 4" alumimun ds + saleen short throw adapters. i don't want to give up my saleen adapter. does anyone know of a true aluminum ds smaller than 4"?

An actual HP increase will not show up on a dyno with a different shaft, I.e lighter one.. BUT, the engine works alot less to do the same job and the car get up in the RPM MUCH QUICKER with the new driveshaft so the Seat of the pants feeling is great..it is definately a worth while addition

 

Coast Aluminum Driveshaft is a GREAT piece. NOT just saying that because I sell them, because I have access to BMR, Powerhouse, and Driveshaft shop at CHEAPER pricing. The Coast Driveline is just REALLY a nice piece, and does a great job. For 589.99 to the door YOU CAN'T BEAT IT... it's 16 lbs. The competition weighs in at much more, we've tested both here in the shop. Aluminum has FAR better dampening characteristics than steel. And because it's 4" in diameter, it is more stable at critical speed. This is top grade aluminum tubes that are tested and balanced to within 1/8 of a gram! This unit's only downfall is that it can't be used with the saleen short shifter adapter (as mentioned above). It's a great driveshaft, and many people I can refer you to run it successfully.

I just had the Coast Alum Driveshagt installed. My installer seemed to like it. I have not seen any negitives from it. I have driven the car at least 300 miles. I have gone a 7.50 in the 1/8 mile at 92 mph and had the car upto 110 mph. It seems great to me I dont think you are going to find a better deal out there. JMO

I also had the car dynoed on a Dyno jet it made 502rwhp so I know the shaft can take at least that.

Alright, I hope this doesn't throw things too far off topic, but there is one thing that was kept me from pulling the trigger on a 1-piece D/S. Do you HAVE TO HAVE an adj. UCA when you go from the stock shaft to a 1 piece??

In my case, I have the stock shifter, so no issues there. However, I do have Steeda (bad word) Ultralites on the rear. All this talk of pinion angle has me a little nervous about installing a 1-piece D/S.
