drag radials

I just ordered a set of nitto 555r drag radials and was wondering if anyone could tell me how much time I could expect to gain in the 1/8-1/4. Car is a stock 07 gt 5spd.

I haven't heard many good things about the 555R at the track. Most people I know that have them like them on the street, but don't care for them at the track.

Which DR's would you recommend Don? I'm thinking of going with Goodyears or Mickeys.

I liked the Nitto's when I had them on my nitrous car. Worked well on the 100 shot at ~400rwhp ~450rwtq. Don't know how much they picked up by themselves. I hope you have lower control arms though.

I would say M/T's or M&H. With a stock (or lightly modded) car, you're probably better off with a shorter tire to help the launch, so in that case I'd go with the 275/40-17 M/T drag radial (#3743R)... it's 26" dia. With more TQ or lower gears (like 4.10s), then the 325/45-17 M&H might be better choice. They are 28" dia, 10.3" wide. I've seen psfracer (Paul) cut 1.4x 60-foot times on those. I run the M&H's on the street right now.

Both of those fit perfectly on 17x9 wheels.

Where's the line with "lightly modded"? I have 323hp/310 trq, cams and 4.10 gears, and have been switching wheel sets on track day to the 26.5" MT ET Street on my original 17x8 wheels. I have quite a haul to either of the 3 tracks around here- about an hour, to an hour and a half each way--and the Streets are a squirrelly handful with teh curvy backroads and highway combinations, although I cut 1.6 and 1.7 60 foots without a problem. I've been thinking of switching to the MT ET Street Radial (which is a slightly smaller 26" tire), but have been reading about folks starting to use 28" tires. My guess is I don't quite have the torque to get the bigger tire rolling and my ETs will suffer (although they'd sure look nice!), but what are your thoughts?

Just my opinion, but if I were in your shoes, I'd probably stick to the shorter tire. Unless you expect to trap more than 115mph, they'll be fine on the top end. Plus they'll help you get out the hole better.

But, I'd go to the M/T 275/40-17 drag radial (#3743R). They are better on the street. I used to drive to and from the track on them all the time. I even used those right after my supercharger went on. And my friend Ed has been running the M/T 275/40-17 drag radial with his 10psi Saleen SC for over a year. He runs in the mid-to-high 7's in the 1/8 (hi-11s to low-12s in the 1/4). And he drives to/from the track with them, too.

Just my 2 pennies...
