I have the cheapest pricing on MT tires. The ET setup is quite nice, and your 60 foot time drops quite a bit. I reccommend the 26 x 11.5 x 17's and, they're like 169 a piece.

With all due respect CR, how can you recommend anything without more information?
Selecting a tire type and size is dependent on many variables, including engine mods, power level, gear ratio, 1/8 or 1/4 mile, etc. In most cases, I would agree that the 275/40-17 M/T drag radial (p/n 3743R) is probably the best choice for most people. But, I wouldn't tell him to buy that tire without knowing more info. It's less than 26" tall, and could be an issue in the traps in the 1/4-mile if running a power adder and 4.10s (or more).
Sharky, I've run two different sizes of M/T DRs (275/40-17 and 275/60-15) and now M/T slicks (28x10.50-15) on the track, plus I run 325/45-17 M&H DRs on the street. In all cases, the tire type/size I chose was based on my set-up at the time, and the intended use. Give us more details about your set-up to confirm what will work best for you.
But a direct answer to your question... Yes, running a sticky track tire is definitely worth the money if you're not hooking on street tires.

I ran mine on 17x9s, but I've read where many guys have mounted them on the stock 17x8s without any reported problems.

I have the BFG drag radials in 275/40/17 on stock bullitts. They fit good. Have not been out to test them as of yet so I can't give you anymore info. Sorry. I believe the MT tires are a bit more sticky than the BFG's. I got mine from www.tirerack.com

I've got all the stage 1 mods you can put on a Mustang minus forced induction or nitrous.
My last test and tune I ran a personal best 13.3 in the 1/4. (not bad for a convertible with the heavy A$$ shaker 1000 in the trunk)
My tuner (Joe @ Dynospeed) swears I can hit the 12's by simply adding drag radials to my list of mods.
I run 18" wheels but don't mind picking up a pair of 17's for the rear.
And CR... I am sure you can hook me up. I will make sure I PM you when I am ready to buy.
And side note for you CR... I just switched to a SCT tuner... OMG... Hypertech and Diablo have alot of catching up to do. (I've now ran all 3)

4:10 gears in my rear
also,
Stage 1 = Not opening up the motor. Bolt ons.
Stage 2 = Opening up the motor some... i.e., Cams
Stage 3 = New built motor, everything high performance oriented.
