Which Drag Radial are you using?
I thought this would be in a search somewhere, but I just brought up drag slick comparos and whatnot.
Planning on going to the track pretty regularly this coming season and want to know what everybody's running (and why) with similar mods. The tire will be going on the stock bullitts, and sized 275/40/17 (due to the stock gearing).
If anyone has used a few of these and could provide comparitive input, that would be awesome. Could you post your 60-foot time, also? Thanks!

I just threw M&H Racemaster Drag Radials on both cars today as a matter of fact. I researched for a good month before deciding on a tire. I saw several people cutting 1.4x 60's with them and decided they were the tire for me. I'm running 325/45/17 on 17x9 Bullitts. They seem to fit perfectly. I can't tell you personally yet how they hook up, but ask me again in April. I'm sure I'll have trouble wiping the smile off my face.

I'm running MT's and I've never gotten below a 1.89 60'. This year, I hope to get some better times with my JLT/Bamachips tune, and control arm relo. brackets.

I run the BFG DR's and cut consistant 1.7 60' times with the occasional 1.6 60' They work pretty well for a DR. I also have 410 gearing in the rear so I am sure that helps pretty dramatically to lower the 60' over the stock gearing. Overall very happy with the performance of the BFGs.

M&H 325/45/17's on 17X9 Saleen wheels.
Best 60' is a 1.473 but I have multiple timeslips with 1.49X's
I can see why you want to runt the 275/40/17 because of the stock gearing, but ideally you want to run a tire with more sidewall and then change the gearing to compensate for the height. I have found a 28 tall tire with 4.10 gears work pretty good with our cars. That works out to about a 3.90 ratio.
Watch the second pass in this video---thats what these M&H's can do:

Dean's white mustang had Hooiser slicks on, and I was beating him to the 60' mark with a 17 inch drag radial--which I drove on 110 miles to the track.

Yup. You're the one that sold me on the M&H's. Are you lowered? I would assume the 28" tire wouldn't cause a problem, but I just wanna make sure. I plan on dropping a pro kit in next month along with D Specs. Just want to make sure I won't rub.

That is going to depend on the offset of the wheels you have. I have 17X9 wheels with +36mm offset and lowered 1.5" and absolutely no clearance problems. For street I have 18X10's with +45mm offset and a 28 tall tire and no clearance issues either.
If it doesn't rub during a 1.4X launch, its not going to ever.

I appreciate all of the input guys. I'm surprised noone's running the Hoosier radials, with them being 10 lbs. lighter a peice than the MT Streets. I don't know if quality/longevity goes away with the weight, but it looks good on paper.
Paul, thanks for the input in the M&H's! I've seen that video before of you lifting the front tire off the gound and that's definitely badass. I'll be going twin-screw in the future (1-2 years from now). For right now, I'm going to stay with the stock wheel for now just to mess around with summer. Gears will be in the future (probably 3:73s or a little higher, numerically).
John, those MT's look to be getting some good bite in your avatar photo, and you probably are the closest (of who's posted) to the few mods I have.
Gears look like they're definitely the way to go for cutting quick 60s, but those will have to wait for me. The input is great, keep it coming.

I know Ill be the only one running the Goodyear SS's
I think they hook pretty well, consistent 1.80s with more practice needed.
In fact, sometimes they seem to hook to well at 4-5k drops of the clutch and cause me to bog.
A lot has to do with the power you are making, your mods on the rear suspension, and of course the driver.
Running the 275/40/17 with the stock 3.55 it puts me across the line at about 6300 rpms, in 3rd, give or take a few.

Shaun, if you're at Ft Lewis, then I'll probably see you at the track (assuming you go to Pacific Raceways instead of Bremerton). I run BFG 275/40/17 DR's with great success on my 07 GT and on my 03 Mach 1. They hook perfect (no spin at all if heated normally before staging). My GT and Mach 1 were both very mildly modded, so I can't answer how well the BFG's would work in higher horsepower applications. However, I got nearly 10K miles out of a set on my Mach 1 (drove on them daily two summers in a row, and hit the dragstrip with them both summers, as well), so they last quite a long time for such a soft compound tire.
Hope to see you at the track this year. Opening day at Pacific Raceways in Sunday, Feb 10th, and I'll be there.
