Do you have any gear whine after FRPP 3.73 upgrade?
I may bite the bullet and upgrade my gears to 3.73 FRPP (auto trans, daily driver, not interested in 4.10). I'm just concerned about having gear whine afterward, since I have some now with the stock gears even after several repair attempts. In fact, the main reason I'm thinking about upgrading is to eliminate the whine since 2 ford dealers were unable to. (I've posted many threads on my whine issues, so please don't ask me to elaborate on that ). So I would like to be fairly confident that most people who do upgrade to 3.73 FRPP don't have any whine.
And yes, I know that "if gears are installed properly they should not whine", so no need to re-iterate that either.
Also, for those whose car is their daily driver, how do you feel about the increased 250 rpms or so at highway speed. Do you not even notice, do you regret doing it, or somewhere in between?
Thanks in advance.

I know when I had the oem 3:55's in my 5sp manual they had a very light gear whine/howl on decel only on the highway. I installed the FRPP 4.10's using a new large end Ford oem pinion bearing and cup. That way I can reinstall the factory 3.55's easily, using just a new crush sleeve, when I want to sell car or don't like the ratio. The new gear install is quiet both on accel and decel. I did use a pinion depth setting tool though instead of just guessing and using the oem pinion shim. The tool verified using the same thickness shim anyway that was installed with the oem 3.55's.
I may actually change back to 3.55's or 3.73's as I find myself doing much more highway driving now. I find on the factory 17" tires the 4.10's are a little overkill but I do like being able to use 5th gear in the city. Kind of a catch 22 here.

I had 4:10s installed 2 months ago I went with the FRPP gears, I did have a shop installed them and I have zero whine at any speed on acc or dec.
As for highway driving on the stock 17" tire/wheel I turn 2100 RPM at 60mph which is about 400 rpm over stock.
I drive 20 miles round trip every day to work mostly between 45 and 55 mph, I don't find the 4:10s to any issue what so ever I just shift into 4th/5th sooner than before. There is much more torque on tap with the 4:10s so I dont down shift as much in traffic, and when I want to stomp the go button the difference is so much better over the stock 3:55s. The CAI and 93 tune doesnt hurt either
Just my 2 cents

My 3.73 gears went in at the dealer with 2.5 miles on. Never a sound out of them in 12,000 miles.

I had the 3.73's put in last week, and I love them. The best mod (after CAI/tune) I've done. Much better response, feels like I added 50hp. I can break the rear end loose about anytime now! The car (auto trans) turns 2500rpm at 75mph, I don't notice the higher engine speed while cruising, other than if I need to speed up quickly. It's a lot easier to do now, almost instant.
