DiabloSport Predator Update

It does that at WOT already doesn't it  Mine does
I've been EXTREMELY reluctant to upgrade, I'm still on r8, but my car runs so darn good, I don't wanna fix what ain't broke

Ok, now I follow what you're saying. Yeah that whole MPH thing for shift "firmness" confuzzled me, it certainly didn't make any sense, so I left that alone
Hmmmm, maybe I ought to get off my butt, go get a serial cable and power adapter and update this thing!
Ooooh, I just thought of a question, does anyone know the voltage required for the power adapter? I literally have dozens of adapters here at the ranch, but was suprised not to see the voltage printed on the unit as it is on most DC jacks
I'll go sneak a peak in the manual again and see if it's listed there. Never mind me as I talk to myself
Found it 12 Volts DC / 1.0 Amp

Mine never did. I believe what was set in MPH was the shift schedule, not WOT shift points. You can now set the shift points by RPM.

OK, I just updated to r22, and reflashed. [Note of caution: you'll need to flash the car back to stock before you update the Predator to r22, so make sure you have a copy of any custom tunes on your computer. I'm using the C&L-specific tune, so I made sure I had a copy of the .frg file to load back on the Predator after the r22 update.]
Having the ability to set the auto tranny WOT shift points by RPM is so nice! I set mine at about 5950, which according to my dyno numbers, is where rwhp starts to fall off. I also took George's advice from another thread and added a couple degrees of global timing and also advanced it in the 2K-4K range.
My "seat-of-the-pants-meter" on a test drive tells me it shifts a little firmer and pulls a little better. But, only the track or a dyno will tell for sure.

The revisions after r12 do not allow rev limit changes. :nono:

Well that bites, why in the heck did they do that! It's nice shifting my auto manually and letting it get near 7,000rpm between shifts <_<

You can change the rev limiter to 7000rpms if you want to. I didn't, because my dyno curves showed a rwhp drop off after 6000 rpm. Going higher than that is of no value to me.

Just the same, it seems C&L only needs 17 revisions to the else named 22!!!
The latest C&L tune revision allows rev increases up to 7000 in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears.
I can now go to the track and not have to put R12 on my car beforehand.
Because of my mods, I have made some other adjustments.
To those who care: I put 4 points to the rich at WOT in both power bands. This is where my dyno guy thinks it works best. I also subtract 5 points on global spark when running 87 with the 93 octane tune or -3 points when running the 91 octane tune.
It runs great. Even in the desert.

The auto trans cars will benefit most from r22... which allows adjusting the shift point by RPM (not MPH). It isn't the C&L tunes that allow rev limt increases, it is the Diablo software. The C&L tunes will work equally well with either r17 or r22... both allow adjusting the rev limiter up to 7000rpm. You just have to "modify parameters" before you reflash with the C&L tune.
I know this for sure... because I installed it today.

How long do we get to beat a dead horse?
As for R22 or R17(C&L) it allows us gear heads to be safe up to 7000 rpm.
I did not notice any other performance gains with R17, but I am sure that I will at the track since my 3rd to 4th gear shift will be at my maximum rpms possible in 3rd. Currently I hit the wall in 3rd before the car stops pulling, but R17 should fix this little issue.

On a horse with no name. It feels good to be back on the range

Ah . . . pardon me . . no hijack intended but the line is . . . "It feels good to be out of the rain".
